I'm after the brightest headlamp available for crabbing. At present I am using a Led Lenser xeo19r and think it is fantastic, except for the weight. At around 470 gm, it is a heavy bugger. Thinking about getting another one but the $400 aus price tag is a bit of a deterrent. Pluses include:
- long runtime on the highest setting, I get slightly over 4 hours of continuous runtime before it shuts down.
-brightness. Led Lenser claims max of 2000 lumens but I'm not sure of what it actually is when/if it does step down, I can't notice any difference over the four hours.
-the focus ability of the beam is a great bonus as in shallow water or on calm nights when there is no ripple on the water surface, I can flood a wider search area.
Negatives are weight and price. I also have a Nitecore HC30, which at 1000 lumens, is plenty bright on land, but in pitch darkness and in slightly deeper water around 1 metre deep or if there is slight ripples on the water surface due to wind, it just doesn't cut it.
Three options I have looked at are the Ferei HL50, Olight H35, and Acebeam H10. All are lighter and cheaper than the XEO19r, but I don't want to buy them unless they can do a similar job to the Led lenser. Non have the running time I need of between 4 - 6 hours, so I guess changing batteries is a must. The Ferei is also a bit of an unknown as I couldn't find anybody with experience of the brand using the search function. Have also looked at various Lupines but at over $1 K, they are probably not an option. Suggestions?
