I know that 3xNiMh is about spec for a Lux3, and I've seen posts about them being direct driven off of 3xAlkaline (4.5V), and another post from someone running one at 2 AMPs(!), so I'm thinking a 4xNiMh (or NiCad) over-drive wouldn't go <POOF> right away and would be bright as hell.

Just wondering if anyone has tried this, and what kind of current draw would it generate?

Aloha, iG

Not recommended. A very high Vf bin Lux III might survive this treatment. If you do try it, please setup to measure current with a low resistance shunt before you fire it up. Folks around here are always interested in the currents at which things self-destruct.
