Just got my Nitecore EA81.

When I shine it at the wall, the light on the wall looks like a donut

the center of the light is not bright

and there is a very bright circle

is this normal for EA81?

:faint:

As kj75 said, it's normal for lights using the XHP50/70 to have it due to the construction of the four separate dies. My XHP50 p60 drop in has a dark thats only noticeable up close, over 20 feet and you can't tell. Now the XHP35 does not have this issue as far as I know.

Yes it is common to see the donut.
There is an empty space between the LED and the reflector that is noticeable
when shining a flashlight up close to a white wall.
You might even be able to detect the squareness of the LED too.

yes this is normal when shining the light up close. The donut vanishes at distance. Any quad die emitter will emit the same donut/dark center when shining on something within oh say five feet
