Hex screws for the Arc4+ (THEY\'RE HERE!)

** Photos on Page Two **

Anyone know of a source for Torx screws of the correct
size to attach the clip to my Arc4+? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Phillips-head fasteners seem a bit "common" or low-tech
for such an advanced lighting instrument.

For that matter, I'd be interested in either Torx or hex
fasteners for my McLux as well. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What size is needed (pitch/thread/length)?

Anyone have any leads or sources?

Hey Lux, I want to know too. Do you mind if I squeeze in here next to you?

Leupold uses torx screws for their bases and rings. Don't have an Arc4 yet to see if one of them fits. If I opt to not use the clip, I'll probably get some allen or torx setscrews to plug the holes.
My guess would be 6/32, but how long from end of threads to underside of head?

Yep, jumping on the "what to use to plug those holes" question...

Re: Torx screws for my Arc4+?

size is 4-40 --that's the size allen head set screws that I used. I found @ my local hardware store some real shorties(1/8"),so I didn't have to file.
I don't seat them all the way down so they can be flush.

Re: Torx screws for my Arc4+?

I'm glad I'm not the only one looking for a
nice screw (that just sounds WRONG). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I will more than likely be buying a pack of 50 or 100.

I would make them available to CPFers at an extremely
reasonable cost (token payment + shipping).I will also
send some to P.G. at Arc for "evaluation". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Would the preference be for natural (silver stainless-steel)
or "blackened" Stainless?

Make your opinions known.

I am NOT taking orders now.

Also, does anyone know of a source for really tiny padded
envelopes? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Torx screws for my Arc4+?

you guys should verify w/ Peter Gransee the thread and depth size
before ordering a bunch of fasteners. In addition there are 4-40 coarse
and fine thread options ( at least for allen head screws). I believe that the set screws that I tried out to fill up the existing screwholes were 4-40 coarse. But make sure...

Re: Torx screws for my Arc4+?

On my way home I went by Ace Hardware and picked up some 4-40 allen head screws. The 3/16" length fit perfectly flush. But the hole depth may vary from light to light, so it might be wise to get the 1/8" ones too. They're only 15 cents apiece.

Thanks chiaroscuro for the size tip. Having those ugly empty holes filled is very satisfying.

I strongly suggest that Peter include two screws and the proper allen wrench in a little plastic bag with the Arc4. With a high-end product like the Arc4, the devil is in the details.

Coarse or fine threads?

I've only been able to find "blackened" SS in 1/4" lengths
that would need to be filed or cut to size.

The "blackened" non SS is available in 1/8 length.

I'll keep looking!

Re: Torx screws for my Arc4+?

Can the setscrews be backed out slightly to prevent the light from rolling, or is the distance between too wide for the arc of the body?

Re: Torx screws for my Arc4+?

Fastlane,

The setscrews can certainly be backed out as you suggest, but they are not comfortable that way to the hand. The threads are sharp edged.
