I have a bunch of Q3 low domes that I had taken off of sandwiches
they just sit there looking at me, so I figured I'd try something.
I made a "hotlips" inspired heat sink, this one is brass.

with the head/reflector assembled

the result is pretty bright, the only thing is the Doughnut hole beam!
I don't like those (like most people here).
the beam is adjustable but you can't get a smooth beam, even when focused
the hole does go away(when focused) but is replaced with quite a funky pattern /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif.
Again, Funky has a time and place but, not in my beam.
I wonder if I used high dome LS's...

Bummer about the beam huh? You need a tri-star lens /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

i dont think the tri star lens will fit with the LS's so close together, i think the pattern will smooth out
when i use HD instead of the LD.
this was just a test run, the emitters i used were just
sitting there looking so naked and lonely /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif

How about a PMR to smooth out beam, remove hole? See Perfect Mag Reflector thread in B/S/T lights. Group buy is closed but may be some extra reflectors available.

Hey red, I can sputter it for you to smooth out the beam if you'd like, for free of course. I have a pic if you'd like to see one. PM me if interested.

Nice mod BTW. I like the heatsink. It must be pretty bright?? Yes, like you're wondering, I think you should try HDs.
