Is is possible to run both HDMI and an optical cable out of a component (also run HDMI and Coax digital audio out of another component)?

Been offered an Amp* that has no HDMI input & I want rebuild my simple theater setup with a couple small Klipsch speakers
*has optical & Coax in

current setup using HDMI:
Samsung panel
Sony BluRay player
DVR
__
Klipsch speakers
shot Yamaha receiver

Will it be fine, need a workaround, not work at all????
..did a search and really didn't get the answer I was looking for.

I don't see why not, although sometimes specific gear can have quirks that prevent you from doing the logical thing.

You COULD have a time mismatch between video and audio if you do them separately. Some devices allow adjusting for this. You just have to try it. Also you could just try analog sound, it could have a different time mismatch.

So right now, you run the BluRay and DVR into the panel with HDMI and just use the internal Samsung speakers (all switched on the Sammy)?

Yes, sound just from panel now.

Part of me thinks the sound part of the HDMI will override the other cables if used together.
I know it's not ideal

The component should output audio from HDMI, COAX/Toslink, and analog jacks simultaneously.

I've never owned a pre-amp or receiver with HDMI inputs, and have used multiple DVD and Blu-Ray players (including Sony).

Yes, It will work.

In my case, my AV amp does not have HDMI sound pass through.
What I did was; HDMI output to my HT projector and optical cable to my AV amp.

Follow-up::

Several weeks back I ended up getting new Yamaha receiver with HDMI pass~through.
It'll handle 4k passing
HDMI cables and one optical cable is it, so wiring is very clean

145W x 5 channels (725W) which won't peel the paint off the ceiling, ok for me
Menus are on screen & similar to Samsung ____ easy (has an eq which I'm glad I found)
Remote is actually super functional

Anyway, it sounds good
