I use my Samsung fridges in door filtered water and ice port and use the tap water(Dallas) for dishes, auto cleaning and lawn watering. I have seen some fairly horrendous muddy water coming out the taps. If you go the filter route replace the cartridge quarterly or if your dispenser flow rate drops. My fridge sends me a reminder about twice a month, methinks their schedule is about profits more than filters overloaded with muck!

Each time a water main breaks they close off valves. Those valves have rust and other deposits stuck to them.

Well when closing said valves those deposits get "scrubbed" off as the "knife" shaped gate slides into a groove.
When the water is turned back on all that "stuff" is now mixed in with the water.

When I return home from work I flush a toilet each day. If there was a waterline break repair the cloudy water will show up in the bowl. Good indicator not to run anything that causes my hot water tank to re-fill until the water is clear again.
(Btw: Part of my livelihood deals with waterline repairs at times)
