As posted above, I want to get a flashlight that has more throw than any of the current 1 x 18650 flashlights. Should I consider 2 x 18650, 3 x 18650, 4 x 18650 lights, or should I focus on something with a different battery?

try the Olight M2X Javelot or even the M3X Javelot. I own the former, and that was one of the best 1x18650 thrower few years back.

If you want to stay fairly compact, Olight SR52UT Intimidator.
LONG run times with great throw.
3x18650
Can charge the batteries without removing them from the light.

What about a high power zoomie? What is it you want to use it for?
EX
I use a zoomie type light to illuminate buoy at night while boating, I want as much throw as possible with no spill.

CPFItalia COMETA 2016 Cree XPL HI LED Flashlight
Around 1300 lumens in turbo mode
Around 900 meters of throw

If you want absolute best throw, then you gotta go 4x 18650 format. Currently Thrunite TN42 is the one to beat.

For best throw in 1x 18650 format, look into M30CvnT, a Vinh modded light. For best throw in a 1x2660 or 18650 format, look into the U21vn, another Vinh light.

Here's my U21vn (XPL PDT, 260k lux) next to an Armytek Predator LE (XPL HI, 45k lux.) It's a joke of a comparison really. U21 is definitely a larger and heavier light, but it's every bit as able to be put in a jacket or coat pocket.

As for TN42, there are lots of youtube videos on it.

man, try Maxtoch Shooter
after my review, some guys bought 3 pieces and compared to Olight M2X javelot. they state maxtoch`s beam is about 30% longer.

i also ordered one for juy who is sniper-hunter. rich guy with a lot expensive equipment. he was (and stll is) glad as a kid with this flashlight.
this one really has extremely long beam.

It looks like it should out throw my Nitecore MH25. Does anybody here know how this compares to the current 18650 throw kings?

usually, long throw means tight beam pattern, which is unrelated to battery type or number of cells.

it means 'large diameter head', and that usually is packaged with multi-cell lights for some reason.

The longest thrower i have is a 5-8 year old light i found on the road side, slightly bent, home depot utilitech brand i think, with 3 C cells
it;s too long for pocket carry, so the 3.5" head should not bother the user either.

anyway the battery itself is not the issue, 18650 is a very good and high energy cell style.

Nitecore P30, Klarus XT12GT or Manker U21 are all well over 500m throw

With 18650 the tail is really compact, just how much throw you want decided how big the head diameter is

I bought the M2X-UT when it first came out. Ordered the P30 yesterday. Couldn't resist the sale price. It's a bit smaller than the M2X. For me smaller is better for EDC purposes. But with decent throwers there has to be a compromise. The UI and mode spacings is a lot better too. And at half the price, I had to try it. If the P30 is still too big for me, there is the 20GT I can try.

I am normally a NW person. But for throwers I don't care.

M2x UT javelot 800 (meters throw) can be had for around $75. these days if you shop around a bit. It's pretty hard not to recommend it at that price. Acebeam EC60 (26650) is more compact than the M2x even though it is a 26650 light. The EC60 is a 2,000 lumen light that gets 600 meters throw. EC60 is one of my favorite lights to stick in a jacket pocket at night though it's still a bit big for pants pockets as will be most single cell extreme type throwers.

Not sure how much throw you need but I just got a Nitecore MH20GT and for its size it seems to be an excellent thrower.

I wouldn't recommend the "Bombeta" to my worse enemy! Multiple risks of short circuit. Maybe only suitable for modders who understand the risks and know how to fix it. It was the outcome of one of the biggest flashlight group buy fails ever.

The 20GT is a small light that throws well for its size. Not sure I would call it a thrower though. Owning the M2X for about 2-3 years now, I have some idea what a thrower is. Can't stand the "twist the head with two hands to change modes" UI though.

Anyway, I am a sucker for small lights. After all, if it's too big to carry, it won't be used much. And what's the point of buying stuff that you won't use frequently.
