Removed this from backpack and it won't work. A variety of troubleshooting found battery cage doesn't show power but the batteries do. Found what appears to be a fusible link under the B+ side.
Still trying to sort out if Battery Junction can either repair or replace this part. Seems to be a long drawn out process so far. I believe the exposed charging port on the tailpiece is the culprit for the open link.
