Is retention that secure to be able to get away with carrying it that way without losing the light?

Way too funny.
The spring is very aggressive. It'll take the finish off HAlll after a few weeks of use. I bought one in 2001, never used it. Later I took out the springs and velcro'd it to a cabinet. Convenient placed to kept the light of the day.
