    Michael,

How about using the "OSRAM OSLON Black Flat"? I don't pretend to be an LED expert, but this seemingly can produce very high radiant flux in a small package.

The lumens are only 800 or so, but Vinh pushed one of his reflectors to 1.1 million candela using the Black Flat. It would be a pencil beam, but I'm wondering if they make "larger" LEDs using the same technology.

That would be nice if they could make larger LED'S or ones w/ larger hot spot and more lumens.

It is hard to find the right balance b/w great throw and enough peripheral light along w/ heat management!

Personally I have NO interest in these pencil beams that have 700/800/900 lumens and go over 1 mile. The SST40[even though I am not fond of the tint] pushes my TK75vn to 7700 lumens[30 sec] and 420Kcd. The heat is NOT an issue now that it is close to winter! 27F last night at 6 pm.
