Can anyone explain how the tighten for off / loosen for low / loosen more for high mechanism works on these lights?

When the head is tight the flashlight is off. So anytime you have a battery in the light and you want it off you keep the head tightened. When you want to turn the light on you losen the head. Perhaps a full turn. It starts on low. When you want to switch to high mode then you losen the head further. Perhaps another half turn. It is a 2 stage progressive twisty style light.

FWIW: on some Tain lights, you install the battery "backwards" compared to most other lights. That is probably worth mentioning here too.
