Yes -- call my crazy, but I've got a Surefire T1A Titan and I'd like to have the emitter changed (preferably to a Nichia 219C).

I won't be doing the mod myself, but I'm trying to gather up as much info as I can regarding the disassembly of this flashlight because I understand it is somewhat complex and challenging.

I found a website with some photos and captions describing the disassembly, but the website is in Russian. I tried using "Google Translate" but it doesn't provide a very clear translation for them. So I thought I'd reach out here on CPF and see if anyone could help with this.

Here is the website URL: http://forum.fonarevka.ru/showthread.php?t=25200

And here are the captions I'd like to have translated into English (with the "Google Translate" translations beneath them):

Caption#1

Caption #2
Let's put awarm ХМL2 in (3500K)
We start to disassemble, we remove a back cover that is visible

Caption #3
unscrew the 2 screws, remove the bat compartment with the head

Caption #4

Caption #5

Caption #6

Caption #7

Caption #8

Caption #9

Caption #10

Can anyone help on this, please?

Moderators -- if this isn't posted in the proper forum, please let me know. Since the T1A is an LED flashlight I thought this would be the best place to post it. Thank you.

By the way, has anyone successfully changed the emitter (or had someone else successfully change the emitter) on their SF T1A Titan? How did it go? It sounds like it is a difficult mod and I've heard about a few failures where the flashlight is rendered useless after an attempted mod. :poof:

Yes, it has been done successfully ... and yes, (my understanding is) it is a very difficult mod.

I have a SF T1 Titan (the titanium version, not the T1A aluminum version) modded by DaFAB, I believe.

I think that milky has done a few of these (T1A) too, not sure who else though .... *LASER* maybe ?

I have one with a WW XP-G modded by Dafab from years ago. It is probably my favorite light. Lowest low of any of my lights and a very respectable high. It lives in my nightstand and I use it every night.

@ecallahan -- That really sounds like a great mod! I should have gotten a T1A a long time ago, but at least I've got one now. The rotary brightness control is so smooth and the flashlight is very small but solid. I'm looking forward to having the emitter changed in mine.

I've got a couple of T1A's. I'd love to mod the older one, it has the early purplish LED.

But, I hope the modded light isn't too bright, I use a T1A for night navigation while stargazing. The lowest setting is already plenty bright for dark adapted eyes on a moonless night.

I also use an HDS Rotary but the T1A goes even dimmer.

Has others have observed, the T1A is a great nightstand light but I hesitate to use it while traveling since I know I'll leave it somewhere. Instead I use a Fenix E01 which I can afford to replace more often. ;)
