For after the viaduct, I was thinking The Jolley Tanners in Staplefield. Look ok to you?

Driving in central Brighton is horrendous and it will be worse this weekend as trains have been cancelled and it's also half term. So I suggest we park at either Black Rock Car Park, about a mile and a half to the East of the pier, (BN2 1DZ), or at Brighton Marina, (BN2 5UT), which is another 500m to the East and is also free. There's lots of places to eat at the Marina if we don't want to go all the way into central Brighton. Or if we're just after food then we don't need to go to Brighton at all. Maybe just meet at Devil's Dyke for lunch.

Black Rock sounds good to me and if I remember correctly, it's next to the nudist beach. At least, it was last time I went there. (I used to date a girl at Brighton Uni who was quite uninhibited.) If we wanted to go into town or the pier we can always take the mini train along the seafront. Not sure about lunch at the Dyke, it would leave a big gap between finishing lunch and going to the viaduct that would need to be filled.
Andy and I will be in Brighton from about 10am onward so we'll be playing in the arcade, sitting on the beach, eating ice cream, playing mini golf or such like. We will try to avoid the middle East section of the town as two men walking together there would suggest something else! Drop us a line when you arrive and we'll all meet up.

Black Rock is indeed the car park next to the nudist beach. Sadly the mini-train won't be running so it's either walk, (I've done it before and it's quite a nice stroll along the sea front), or take a bus which will be £2.20 each way, (ask for a CentreFare), which you can pay for with a contactless card. Or for £5 you can get a CitySAVER which will allow you to travel as much as you want.

    The Jolly Tanners looks good.

Still need to do some charging and work out what to bring.

Once I'm back from the morning's activities, I'll message the group to see where you are and when to join you.

So from the timing I'm assuming we are visiting the viaduct, then going to the pub. Will there be a staging point pub before going to the viaduct, or will you come straight out from Brighton?

Sorry. chaps. My Flu has got the better of me - Soaring temperatures and sleepless nights this week have beaten me and I am going to miss this one.

Still I'm lending Andy my thrower torch and some fun/gift LED's I had for the group - make good use of them.

Please someone check on Tofty who is not on WhatsApp, but said he would come - I can PM his number if nobody has it.

Photos required from the night, have fun all.

    Update, table for five!

I've just spotted that about a walk mile from the Viaduct is Ardingly Reservoir, complete with a giant plug hole thing that is crying out to be illuminated at night!

Looks like there is a public footpath just down from the viaduct that goes along the Ouse river then branching off to the viaduct. 20 min walk through fields perhaps.

Yep, that's pretty much the route. You don't actually have to go on the road near the reservoir as the footpath continues across the fields. I've got the route in my handheld GPS.

Some photos from the evening at the Ouse Valley viaduct. Thank you Jay for an excellent suggestion.

So good to see everyone, just a pity we were one man down - next time.

Missed you Lee. Make next time yes!

Andy and I stopped off at the viaduct on the way down and ended up talking to a couple of drone operators when were mapping the viaduct.

It was a little bit misty.

But it had cleared up by the time we got to Brighton.

I never knew that seagulls ate chips, drank Pepsi and pooped out mayonnaise sachets!

But we avoided those and ended up in the pub meeting up with the beer army. (reinforced by the Coke and lemonade army.)

I must concur with Jay - I this these are some of the best Meet-Pics we've seen since Stonehenge.

Great stuff. Even though there are precious few torch on table type shots, maybe we've matured since those were De Riguer...

Jay, what was the mega torch you brought???

It's a great team effort on the photos. Jay providing the ambience, Remote providing the artistic photos needing (amongst other things) commitment to climbing up and over obstacles, and I took a couple too.

Well, after Jay dropped that Acebeam on the table, there wasn't much point in bringing out anything else...or perhaps there is a degree of saturation as, apart from monsters like that, the progression in lighting technology is not moving so fast. We didn't photograph Tofty's pens.

Lee, it is the Acebeam X70. I got it just before Christmas and have been keeping it under wraps since then in order to surprise you guys.

It came in quite a nice small case, I'll post a picture later. Ordered from HK Equipment and was delivered from Ireland in a few days. Charger had a U.K. plug and the car charger that came with it even has a usb out so you can still use a phone or satnav if you are using the car lighter socket to charge the light.

Here is the case you get with the X70. I like that it comes not much bigger than the torch itself. You get the light, the mains and car charger, shoulder strap and cooling fan. You have to supply your own 18650 to run the fan and I guess a charger for the 18650 unless you get one of the ones with a micro usb charging port built in.

    Coke for size comparison.

And the bag I bought because I had an epiphany about how my bigger lights could fit in it.

Now called the small bag of big light fun seeing as how it holds my..
Acebeam X70 60,000 lumen (plus fan handle)
    Thrunite TN36 6,000 lumen
    Thrunite TN42 2,000 lumen
    Nitecore EA41 1,000 lumen

(I don't really call it that. Perhaps I should though, Hmmmm.)

You know, there has to be some good ruins of a castle somewhere that would look good all lit up at night?

Jay - castles is a good idea - will look for some in the South East, with easy access.

As for the Thrunite - not I. Surely Sub must have one or seen it at least?

BTW - Castles - Bodiam (East Sussex), Rochester (Kent)?
