Oil/Grease in Elzetta Alpha?

So I took the battery out of my Elzetta Alpha the other day and I noticed the positive end of the battery was "sticky". So I looked inside the light and I noticed there a lot of what looks like grease inside the light at the head end. If this is normal then that's fine, it just seems excessive. The function of the light is not impaired at all. Is this normal?

Hi,

Have you ever examined your mobile phone's battery terminals ?

Dialectric greases aren't conductive. Too much can for sure cause inefficiency.

You see people use too much on RVs and off-grid homes. Less metal to metal contact can cause excess heat.

Not sure about the effects on a flashlight though.

Elzetta uses Molykote 55, a white silicone based O-ring lubricant. You can probably see it at the tail of your Alpha. If the grease inside the head is not white, then it's not their thread lubricant. While it's probably not harmful, you don't need lubricant on the battery terminal. If it were mine, I'd dip a Q-Tip in isopropyl alcohol and use it to clean the contacts.

This is most definitely not white. Its thick black grease. I never seen this in a flashlight before.
