I was out in my backyard this morning in NE Florida 30 minutes before sunrise. I had with me a Surefire C2, Malkoff M61 Mod, Oveready tailcap with the their original Zerorez insert. I use it to check the yard for unwanted wildlife prior to letting my pug out. This morning there was a swarm of bats feeding on what appears to be a hatching of gnats. Both were within 10 feet of the ground. I made sure first that my door was closed as I didn't want a bat to fly into my house. The bats stayed around until sunrise.

I can tell you they were not at all impressed by my flashlight. :shakehead

Bats are really cool animals, but it is true that they can cause a lot of problems if they get into your house!
True. We had one come down the chimney (may have fallen) and of course he couldn't fly back up. We had an open stairwell to the second floor so that is where we found him. Got him cornered in the bathroom. Luckily the top pane in our windows slides down easily and is without a screen. As soon as he sensed (heard) the open window out he went.
