I was curious so I ran a test of the Luxeon Dental vs. small UV LED, used pieces of Post-It Fluorescent tabs (670-5AF), and BIC highlighers "Brite Liner Fluorescent" (BLP5W).

Neither LED had additional focusing lenses.

Luxeon Dental:
LXHL-BRD1
Radiometric Power: 140mW
Peak Output Wavelength: 460nm
Electrical Power: 3.42V * 350mA = 1.197 Watts

BIVAR UV LED (Glass and Metal, not cheap acrylic/epoxy)
UV-305-TO92
Radiometric Power: 5mW
Peak Output Wavelength: 395nm
Electrical Power: 3.42V * 20mA = 0.075 Watts

Neat test. I had been curious if the 460nm would be short enough to provide sort of a black light glow effect - It looks from your test like it does.

Have you tried to see if you can make things glow in the dark from 10 - 20 feet away ?

Perhaps run the luxeon at close to the same powerlevel as the UV led, to see the true difference in UV output. True the luxeon foreces things nicely due to it's sheer output and output lower than it's peak output, but how does it do at the same current level?

Nice blacklight effect, but while also giving a nice blue glow.
