I found a 6R with charger but without battery for sale a few days ago for $40. I was too late, but how good a deal was that? I know it wasn't exactly a bad price.

Yes, that is a good deal, very possible excellent depending on the charger type and condition. One can usually get a B65 for around $10 to $15.
