I just saw a commercial advertisement on TV for the Hydralight. Is it as big of a gimmick as I think it it or is it even bigger than that?

Gimmick. There have been a couple of youtube reviews debunking it. It has very meager output and the battery wears out very quickly. A single L91 AA will vastly outperform it on all measures.

Gotta love the qty.6, one-star-out-of-five reviews, lol.

Looks like the best chance for the purchaser is that the '25-yr battery' has a high probability of failure during the initial 60-day return window.
