Wonder how 50.2 will perform in a larger host.. TN40svn?

I have a single XHP50.2 M25C2vn that I love. A nicely balanced light. However, my TN40Svn with 4 XHP35 HI gets hot super fast. Considering that XHP35 HI puts out about 2,000 lumen vs XHP50.2 at about 3,000 lumens, wouldn't that get instantly hot? Or perhaps there are differences in efficiency between the two that would mitigate that.

Splitting up voltage 4x 50.2 in TN40S (i think) would be more efficient than driving 1x hard @3000lms

    How fast does your 4x XHP35 heat-up?
Assuming that is on turbo, what level high can TN40Svn sustain output without over heating?
    Thx..

I have to crank my TN40Svn down within 2 minutes on Turbo. It will last quite a while on 3rd level down from turbo. That's why I sent it back to Vinh for a ramping UI upgrade. Now I can fine tune a happy medium between brightness and heat.

If I had to guess, TN40 with XHP35 HIs can do about 2-2500 lumens without heat issues. XHP35 HIs definitely aren't 70.2s when it comes to lumen efficacy.

That's a really smart set-up for that type of light. I've grown to love ramping UI's and I'm actually surprised that it's not a standard feature from the popular manufacturers these days. It's especially handy for high heat output lights.

Enthusiasts love Ramping but many of my customers especially tactical guys only want quick simple discrete level. No time to press and hold, wait to ramp and risk missing a desire level and having to ramp back to it while they have way more important things going on. I myself love a simple 2-3 discrete mode level. Ramping is fun and useful for general purpose too of course.

True, ramping doesn't make sense for tactical lights. I think a tail switch is superior for tactical lights as well. Since most of my lights are geared toward EDC/Task, the ramping feature is handy. I've been using my E07 as a helmet light for biking and it's sure neat to be able to give it a slight bump up or down without moving a whole step, such as on a typical Fenix PD light, for example. It looks like I'm going to have to order another E07vn because this light just does so many things well.

Mine showed up over a week ago - I think they've been at dealers for a couple.

It's bright, it throws, it's very similar overall to my CFT-90 BLF GT but in a smaller package. Better built, though, from first look.

UI is a little sluggish to me. Not as fast to change modes or go straight into moonlight compared to my other lights— whether it’s driver VN, Anduril, or Zebralight.
Hotspot and corona are big, around the same size as the hotspot and corona of the Cat6 with XHP35 HI. A very useful and thick beam. I have not taken it outside yet.
Heat is well managed in eco mode. 4 minutes of turbo (3000 lumens) and the light is just warm around the e-switch. If there is any thermal regulation ramping going on, it’s very smooth subtle— can’t really notice anything.
In power mode, turbo gets hot instantly. By 1 minute in, it’s nearly too hot to hold, and the thermal control starts ramping its output down. The 3000 lumens seems very usable, while the 6300 turbo is just a ‘lemme show this to my friends real quick’ type of mode.
I’m not sure why the heatfins half way up the taper of the head, the placement makes no sense. Aesthetically it’s cool, but the heat doesn’t spread to the thin shell holding the reflector in place. It first starts at the shelf of the LED around where the switch is at, and then goes towards handle first. I would have preferred something more like the way Maxtoch does it with the XPro, where there’s a solid chunk of fins just below the reflector. Not having the fins half way up the taper would make the light less top heavy as well. The ones around the button are thick and deep though, and do a good job.

Vinh are you modding this light?

You may send in your own AB light to be modded and I wont have to remove the serial.

Okay scratch what I just said about the light managing heat well. Apparently I had it in eco mode. In power mode, turbo gets hot basically instantly. By 1 minute it's very hot to the touch, almost too hot to hold. At 1 minute in, the temperature regulation kicks in to ramp the light down.

This LED is being driven so hard, that I doubt Vinh can do anything to the light other than beam tuning.

Haha!! That's pretty funny! ...and I'm guessing the accompanying increase in light output was fairly impressive too in power mode?

Yes it was noticeably brighter. I have a light that finally makes the hotspot of my T21vn look very dim. I thought the brightness and lux increase wasn't that apparent, then I compared both the 3000 lumen output (550k lux or so) and the 6300 lumen output (1.5m lux) next to the T21's 640k lux. It's incredible.

Assuming both the CFT90 and SBT90gen 2 use 9mm2 dies, the K75 and Spec2 BLF GTvn should throw very similar. The slight lumen increase of the K75 will be offset by its slightly smaller reflector.

I wonder how a domeless 3v XHP50.2 would compare? It seems it would have a similar die size, and should be able to output 4000 lumens or so easily enough. Might be a nice thing to do with multi-well reflectors.

So stock, it out throws the TN42vn90 by a notable margin? (If its equal to the BLF GT CFT90?)
