And the SS tail feels great in the fingers, you guys will love it. The light doesn’t really feel noticeably heavier as a whole though.

Followed the firmware check instructions here and determined that my HCRI XP-G is running firmware 2.9 at 12(0) lumens. Anyone know if 2.9 has a candle (flicker) mode? Thanks.

It’s okay but fairly dim - if you’re looking for flood for up close work with low output a diffuser might be helpful.

Shipping confirmation received, hope it won’t take too long to arrive in Hong Kong. Can’t wait!

Not possible to screw older 24TPI threaded head unit onto a newer ACME threaded battery compartment, right?

    Nope.

Do you want to get rid of an old no ACME thread head?

I bought an older 120 light from another member here, and was lamenting that I didn't wait to pick up the 140 lumen version.

Other than big jump in horsepower (20 addl lumens), perhaps the main difference between the 120 and 140 lumen version is that the latter were exclusively ACME; some of the 120s had 24TPI threads and some had ACME threads.

When I received the 120 in question, I immediately unscrewed the original 123 battery tube and replaced it with my 18650 tube, which is definitely ACME. Since they screwed together, I was fairly confident that I had an ACME head.

I want to get the firmware upgraded in this head, but according to the HDS website, earlier versions (non-ACME) might be excluded. Just trying to confirm before this light makes its once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage back to Tucson.

Happiness. Done for a while (I hope). L-R

Panda Rotary with SS40 (raised), NB4 Nichia Rotary (flush), High Noon Executive Clicky (raised), Tactical Rotary XPG2 (raised), newest member, Panda NLT 18680 Rotary (flush).

The bookends are new. Picked up 2 and 3 from the left on CPF. 4th from the left is my oldest - the tactical XPG2. Very happy.

Nice! Be careful with those middle three. Can't drop them on their tails any more or they might shatter

Also, that pic really shows off how great the current orange peel reflectors look.

Now seems like the right time for a good old fashioned moon mode runtime test. The test began at 7:00pm EST on May 30

    I have three contenders:
    200lm 219b r9080 running on a Vapcell INR16340 that tested 758mAh at 500mA
    325lm XP-G3 NLT running on a Vapcell INR16340 that tested 705mAh at 500mA
200lm 219c high noon running on Duracell CR123

The r9080 appears dimmer than the others on low so I'm interested to see how that plays out. Will update later.

My new steampunk Rotary arrive last week. The silver tail looks terrific in person.

The tint of the SST-20 is just what the doctor ordered, on all levels. I took it out to a wooded area to compare it to a rotary with the an SW45 in it (swapped into a light calibrated for 325 XPL). In the daylight I can see maybe 30 or 40 meters, and it was hard to tell the two apart in terms of how much I could see or color specifically. My only complaint is that on the lowest levels, the spill on the SS40 is not as useful as the Nichia. I found myself moving the large hotspot around more, if you know what I mean, but I've seen worse, and it does have more punch than the Nichia, and like a lot of folks here I'm a sucker for throw. The OP reflector is a good match for this emitter I think.

I wonder if uncoated silver tail should be a long term option. I really like the dramatic look.

    Default HDS Systems EDC #22

Light arrived in Hong Kong today, very happy with it. The knurling fit and finish on the tail cap is very nice, a good improvement over previous. Light is smaller than I remember but again I haven’t had an HDS for about 6 years now. Also enjoying the contrast with silver bezel and tail. Previous HDS I had was fully blacked out

SS40 LED this time, enjoying the HiCRI as previous was XPG and cooler than I wanted. Rotary is buttery smooth. This version also tail stands a lot better than my last HDS. I remember the button on my previous light stuck out a bit more which interfered slightly when tail standing.

Early mail call today... New NLT 18650 PANDA and full length pocket slip with a pull (Carabiner) tab on top. Really tussled with the decision for the PANDA, as you can see I'm a black Bezel - flat tail guy. The Panda kept calling me though and I put my Fenix TK30 LEP purchase on the back burner and went for it. Really does feel and look good. If anyone is on the fence about one I'd say go for it before they are gone.
2 of these are odd looking....and really do not fit in.

In no specific order...2 NLT's, 3000K,4000K,5000K and Amber

Update: both the NLT and 219b had shut off this morning, putting them at 6 days and a bit on the vapcell 16340s. Both turned back on and ran for about another hour.

The high noon with cr123 is still going strong.

Very nice!! So if you used moonlight 3 hours a nite, it would last 48 days on a 16340. Now maybe I should try this test on my 18650 body.

Did someone ever the locator flash runtime test with a current HDS? I remember an old HDS was running for 3 years or so. I do not expect this runtime, but would be interesting if it is possible to locate the light for a year, or not?

In a surprising twist, the high noon ended it's run today concluding the test. That leaves us at 5-5.5 days for the XP-G3 and 219b on 16340s and about 6.75 days for the 219c on a CR123 primary.

Overall not too shabby but if I need super long runtime I'd definitely take a zebralight.

Thanks for testing, this is useful There is only 1 question, moon mode - which levels of 24 were chosen?

    Yes Im also suprised,
I expected the CR123 to last twice as long,
but it actually lasted less than 25% longer..

Manufacturer, shelf life, conditions in which the battery was stored, deviations in the production batch. I can only trust the 16340, whose capacitance and voltage were tested by quality equipment before testing, such as SkyRC or similar.

Thanks for the test. Pretty interesting to see the returns diminish so quickly on the CR123a. I remember the old HDS stuff was super efficient (not that this is at all bad). Then again, like Desert.snake said, there could be a bunch of other factors at play.

For the experiment, I also put Executive on level 1, 219C 5700K, 16340 Olight ORB-163C05, from the factory is estimated at 550 mAh, battery tester shows 518 mAh, voltage at start of test 4.186 V, start time today at 10.28.

I put together a little Pelican 1010 travel kit for when I'm away from home a few days. I'll have one HDS on me and the case contains a backup HDS Rotary, three 16340s, magnetic charger, eight CR123s, and just for fun an HDS user manual.
