Thank you for the offer. At this point, I have several bicycle handlebar mounts to test. I purchased some HDS mounts from Henry. Also ordered a Fenix mount.

My preference is to add an HDS light to the lighting mix I use but I am also looking at the dedicated Fenix BC30 bicycle light that was reviewed on CPF a few years ago. The Fenix light is much heavier - like 2x - and probably will not hold up as well as the HDS. We will see.

I've just picked up a very smart HDS 200 Exec on Ebay.
I wonder if anyone knows what the firmware is?
It has a 3 click lockout, you can only toggle the Locator in the config menu as 4 clicks does nothing and there is no Candle mode on 5, 7 or 9 clicks.
    Any ideas?

Yeah, I was hoping not to have to do that - feeling lazy.
Pull yourself together Yetman and do something!.

Yes, I'll run the check. Are the strings terribly long? Presumably they repeat if I miss the start?

I thought 2.10 or 2.11, DS. I'll check it in a sensible way.
Was it normal for the Locator to be permanantly on and only switchable through the Config Menu? On my 170N it doesn't matter how you configure it in the menu, 4 clicks switch it on or off. 4 clicks on this do nothing.
Not sure if I like the lockout, but it's a novelty at the moment.

This one came with a flush button, so I thought I'd give it a try. Didn't like it and put in a raised one. Then I gave it another try today and realised that in my pocket it takes a while to figure out which end is which (maybe I have insensitive hands) so the raised one is back on.

If people are wondering why neither Henry nor I will say what the next hiCRI will be... This thread will explain it especially when compared to this thread. The reason is pretty simple... We have all seen Hogo turn into an Adam Henry on the forum and perhaps say things that would be better left unsaid. His filter doesn't work so well at times... well, in fairness, it would be more accurate to say his filter only works sometimes... or perhaps even more accurately, rarely.

We try very hard to get the "best" emitters that we can. It doesn't help when spec sheets list bin codes that don't actually exist, which is often the case. Hogo get's his hopes up just to be dashed by the manufacturer who basically lied and states the only ones that actually exist are a few bin codes down. This is a very common thing. I think from 2 years ago, people have seen a pretty good variety of emitters available, and if one missed out... there is the secondary market. My goal is to keep things changing in emitter selection... but it really depends upon what is available. I myself am pretty exited about the new hiCRI that is coming to HDS, but until I get one on the sphere and now exactly how it is behaving... and this could be a month or two depending upon the vendor we shipped them out to in order to have them computer/robotically placed on the boards.

The next couple of months are not going to be great. I'll consider it good if I restrain myself from doing a Lizzie Borden on the machinist... but the next 6 months... those I am looking forward to.

I have an update to my broken HDS Rotary (broken on arrival) - knivesandtools shipped the replacement on next day after receiving the faulty unit. And I have just received the replacement (lower serial, with polished reflector - not the newer orange peel). It's not night here but I can say that now this works as expected :-). I can't reproduce any of the issues I had with the previous light. Also the lockout by unscrewing head works 100% reliable and the light doesn't flicker like crazy (which it did on the previous unit). Now I need to wait until it gets dark :-). I am also looking forward for Henry receiving the broken HDS and finding out what was wrong.

I love a story with a happy ending. While it's possible for any electronic device to have defects, an HDS is very unlikely to break or fail. Now that you've got one in proper working order, it will serve you for many years. Henry's warranty is solid. Glad to see that his vendors also stand behind the product.

It will be a totally new version of the HDS... not just a firmware change. Older and current lights will NOT be able to have this option or be upgraded because it requires a totally knew elf in the light. It's hard to teach an old elf new tricks. Lot's of cool things being worked on, but more than likely, this won't happen until 2020.
    Hi. Any updates?

Hello all, hoping someone can answer... I have a 170N Rotary (OR version, I think). Was using it a lot during travels, and I would occasionally get a triple blink signal when trying to turn it on. This would be followed by normal function of turning it on?? It seemed to go away when I put a new battery in. More curious than concerned...
