Just seeing this thread, did I already miss the train?!

Honestly though, I see it's already been said but I truly believe CRK is the HDS of the knife world. Superbly made, ultra reliable and functional, but not really flashy...at least not the standard models. I love my CRK like I love my HDS.

The most effective knife for construction work in my opinion (except for Scandinavian in wooden construction)

I had decided on a large Inkosi with the drop point blade, but it appears they are back ordered. Perhaps they are more like HDS than I originally gave them credit for. LOL

Thoughts on the Insingo blade? It would represent a $450 compromise, but I still somewhat like it. Not what I really want, though.

I wouldn't settle if your eyes are really set on something else...we have all been down that road and all know it's not wise

I know how patient you usually are...I'd tough it out till the one you really want is available

Patience? You mean humans seeking medical treatment at the doctor's office?

I wonder if the Insingo blade is easier for an amateur to sharpen?

That's an Insingo in my Small Sebbie in the photo at the top of the page. Honestly its one of my favorite "edc" blades ever, and I've got lots of them. Its got enough belly to be a decent slicer, much better than a true sheepsfoot, but having that tip down low means is super easy to put it right on a pinpoint target for starting a cut of any sort. If I put my thumb on the back of the blade, the tip is just right there in a straight line with my hand without me having to twist my wrist way up to get the tip down, if you know what I mean. Granted its not very "stabby" if you do lots of those sorts of jobs, but its sharp enough, with a nice swedge at the top, that it still does well at most piercing tasks. The other day I stabbed half a dozen holes in the lid of a mason jar after my son brought it to me with a frog inside, and I regularly do pierce-n-slice tasks like opening dog food bags or whatever. Honestly I just think its great.

As for sharpening, honestly no I don't think its very easy to sharpen. I tend to want to round off the tip because I'm used to sharpening blades with more belly, so I have to really focus and pay attention when sharpening this one. Its doable, but does require more thought for me. Good thing this steel is really tough. Every pass on the stone removes almost-zero metal, so a few errant swipes can be forgiven.

HOWEVER all of this is just my opinion. You won't know how you like it until you try it yourself.

Ah, hell with it. I just ordered the large Inkosi with the Insingo blade. The Aposlte P's YouTube video helped a bit.

The trouble with buying toys online is that you can't handle them until you've bought them. Funny, though, that my first instinct was toward the small Inkosi. Then I saw Nick Shabazz's video, in which he described the ergonomics of the small Inkosi as a "condom full of Legos." Ha! The Nick's opinion on flashlights means little to me, but I consider him an authority on knives.

Well I'm glad you finally bit the bullet on something. I think all crks are great and you can't go wrong.

I also like that they come with a birth certificate...which could also lead to trouble. One of my nephews got one with his birth date...then some sob stole it. Talk about a grail to him.

I almost fell onto that wagon, but that would have caused some serious pain to the wallet

Can't wait to see your pics once it arrives

I love love the Insingo blade. I think they make mean slicers and with the exception of being careful with the tip as mentioned above, they do sharpen easily since they are pretty straight. I haven’t tried a large Inkosi, only small, but I have to believe it’s awesome based on the little brother. That said I think their large size knives are perfect for most uses. One day when I’m off my automatic kick I intend to try an Inkosingo like you have on the way.

Communication is one of my main job functions, but I posted that image without a caption for a reason. I was speechless when I first held it, slack jaw even. I've recently read a lot about CRK products, including the ravings of some very vocal critics. I understand now that they are simply a different type of consumer than I am. This knife is over built, just like an HDS. They will make life long companions!

I will say that it needs some breaking in. I had to remove that fluorinated grease and replace it with a lighter weight oil. Thumb's a bit sore from fidgeting with it, but it's a good pain.

The recommendation I'm about to make would be considered controversial in some circles I'm sure, but I'm not the only one to do this --

You can significantly speed up the break in process by forcing it a different way. Disassemble the knife, take the phosphor bronze washers out, get some micron-graded polishing papers and a flat surface like a granite countertop, and put a mirror shine on those things. That's basically what breaking it in does, using the steel and titanium frame. Be careful not to thin them, just nicely polished. Months worth of break-in in half an hour.

Interesting. I did put the washers on the strop, but only for a few passes. Didn't want to push my luck. Now I just have to decide whether to keep the pocket clip or go with custom leather...

This one is the large Inkosi.

Edit: Now I might find a use for a small Sebenza.

Officer, I can attest that he was only looking at the slip joint version.

Your thumb will get used to the volcano thumbstud, I promise. We all had sore thumbs at the first. Haha
