Battery Size, Protected vs Unprotected

Is there a size difference between protected and unprotected 18650 cells?

I remember reading that protected cells were slightly longer. If they are longer, how much longer are they?

If not by size, is there any other way to tell?

Protected 18650 will be slighty longer, by about 5mm or so to accommodate the protection circuit on top of the normal cell. They will also have a thin flat metal strip running along the side to connect to the anode to the protection circuit, which you can usually see or feel through the outer wrapper.

I found when inserted into a battery charger, there is a noticeable size (length) difference.
