4000K hands down if you have to pick one. Tint is stellar, beam is great and still feels at home as a Malkoff. If you are a big fan of warm, this current 3000K SST tint is sublime and seems to be higher output than the old XP-G2 80CRI, making the 3000K the no-brainer.

I'd get the 5700K if that higher output and thermal efficiency are important, IE you really want to maximize your lumens/ MA, might put mine on my 870. WML/ duty light kinda situations.

Try customlites.com. He may have a 4500k drop in. I’ve used those in an MD2 before.

That said, I’ve had a 4000k and a 3000k in the new SST drop in. The 3000k are amazing! Almost perfect.

Great choice. You will find it to be a very versatile light. I have hundreds of hours of pre-dawn walks with my MD2.

Can anyone confirm that both the new HD and Wildcat will run on 1x18650? Not the 18650 model the regular MD4 setup. I’m pretty sure I read that both do, but can’t confirm it.

Was wondering the same thing. The one thing I love with my older reflector based HD is it had good throw but great spill as well. I’m not sure if the new “tir” for lack of better words is going to have that.

I too, love my HD 18650. It’s my nightly go-to for taking the dog out and sweeping around my modest property. I’m reasonably sure I don’t exactly need a Super...but...well...you know...

What do you use it for?
The current HD's spot is close in size to a M61's, just much more intense. It looks bigger at short range due to the bright corona, which the M61 doesn't have. The spill is bright, but only half as wide as the M61's(edit: in a 16.5mm head), so the overall beam is a lot smaller.
If you want to light up the ground in front of you, this isn't the right tool for the job. If you want to light up something in the back corner of your yard(or your neighbor's yard, or your neighbor's neighbor's neighbor's yard) it is.

- because it is possible to use the lenses (1 degree or 5 degrees) then more versatility is gained.
I often say that the new hound dog 18650 is a 3 in 1 product.

Better is relative. The characteristics of the LH351D are well known and reviewed. Those characteristics, along with stated specs for high CRI versions > 219B SW45 D200 or the SST-20 5700K (IMO). The problem is finding bare SPHWHTL3DA0GF4QTW6 (or similar). That alone stops the conversation in its tracks.

Some of you were asking about the regular Hound Dog on 1x18650.

Slow night, so I took beamshots periodically, starting at midnight. Could only fit 9 in this collage studio thing...

Last beamshot. 2:30-2:45, output is lower than the low beam on 2x18650, though there's still more lux than M61N(whose spot does not illuminate that building at this range/camera settings/conditions).
Figured running it on a single cell was pointless, but I was curious. It's quite usable for an hour and a half or so, but a big step down from full output. Due to the head size, a shorter body doesn't really make the light more portable, so no MD3/18500s for me, either. Rather stick with 2x18650, and get the most out of it.
I already knew that, but wanted to "play flashlight", and made myself leave the MD4 body at home so I wouldn't immediately go back to using it...

Edit: I let the light run to a bit past the 5hr mark, just to see if the battery's protection circuit would kick in. The last hour, it went from probably 10-15 lumens to maybe 5(different beam type, but my EDC Zebralight has 2.7, 7.9, and 20.3 lumen modes to compare to).
Battery showed 2.85V when I got home.
