I don't have this LED in a Malkoff yet, but I do have it in something else and it's one of my all time favorites. I actually prefer this over the Nichia 4000K.

If I had to pick a pin it would be the M61N 4000K SST

I have the M61NL with SST20 in my MD2 and it's lovely. 200 lumens on high is enough for basically everything and when it's not I feel I'll need something throwier or much more than 500 lumens from the non-L version.
Having said that... I'm pretty tempted by a VME head with M61WLL and CR123 body. I have to resist though.

The M61NL with a high-low ring might be the best setup in terms of 2 useful modes and battery conservation.

I agree. Just took mine apart to see what the resistor in the high/low ring is. I'm seriously considering getting an M61WLL. Maybe also the VME head so I can use it on the MDC 1AA body with a 14500.

EDIT: I left out the word "considering".... I think that was my subconscious speaking.

    I run M61LLL 219 B with the high-low ring. That's an interesting combination.

Not much of a difference between modes.

I'm with you on the 219b K variants. Most of my Malkoff's aren't too rosy. I don't mind it so much 3500K and down.

I'm not a huge fan of any magenta or green hue. IRL doesn't matter much.

I have a 219b sw40 in my MDC 1AA (the one from Illumn) and it's the purest white of any of the LEDs I have. Can't see any hint of either green nor pink. It looks more like 4500K though.
The other Nichia I have is the sw45k in a HDS Rotary. Its tint is also pretty pure white, and even if it's the (in?)famous sw45k emitter, there's very little pink hue even when I specifically look for it on a white wall.

Then again, when using the lights normally not a single one I have has a noticeable green/pink hint that is bothersome.

The 219B tint is certainly interesting but not obnoxious.

So what’s the go to budget host for dropins these days. I see a couple of G2s listed on eBay for around $25 but I’m a bit hesitant as they ship from China and I know there are counterfeit Surefires out there.

Not necessarily “go to” and I don’t have experience with either, but US stocked options available today, none the less.

    Here’s a US stocked 21700 host:

A G2 shipped from China, sold on eBay or Amazon is probably a counterfeit.

Lumens Factory sells a nice host called Seraph for less than $20.

Make sure not to use a full power malkoff in a G2. Not good for heat.

Thanks guys. Look like I found a legit G2 and it’s on its way. I’m taking a trip to Central America and will be using it with an M60NLL and gifting it.

    Appreciate the response here.

Btw I also have new M60NL on its way in from Malkoff along with a regular bezel to get this old md2 up and running. Forgot I had it and High low rings don’t work in it so Cathy is kindly sending a regular bezel ring with my order.

Dying to find a head one of these days. I managed to snag a body a while back. Very unique finish.

I had this in my parts box, picked it up for like $35 some time ago.

Thinking of picking up a Thyrm Switchback as there’s no way of adding a clip.

This is a pretty good clip: https://malkoffdevices.com/products/...lip-to-fit-md2

I had to bend the lip up a bit so it catches the pocket well, not sure if it's like that on all of those clips. With the Thyrm the light is probably a bit deeper in the pocket though, but I don't have one of those.

Thanks. Yes those are nice. The older MD2’s do not have a screw in tail cap however. The body is a single machine piece.

The Thyrm is big but it should work as it’s friction fit.

Just a reminder that MD2 with Malkoff M61T and the high-low ring is the ultimate EDC.

I have been EDC'ing it for a year or so it seems and I like that combo above others.

Two modes with ideal spacing. Light compact, clicky or twisty, your choice. I roll with clicky as I like the touch to light feature without the full click. I get that the Z41 tailcap has it also.

The "T" or the throw feature makes the light appear brighter than it really is. Same lumens as M61 but more focused, with higher lux, greater punch.

I like my EDC to have a high CRI beam, and kind of a floody beam, maybe with a little punch. Ultimate EDC is a very subjective term IMO.

+1 PSM, that's why I like reflector lights. One of my all-time favorite Malkoff EDCs is an MDC li-ion 219b on a 16650. Really sweet on an E2D, allows tailstanding. I've never had it not suffice. If I am waffling on what to take it's a go-to for me. The reflector is perfectly sized for EDC IMO, especially with 219/xpg/sst-20 sized emitters!

That and a W M61 LLLL are perhaps my most used Malkoffs.

I used reflector lights for a long time, 15 years. My second EDC is my M61LLL 219B in the 2x18500 configuration. And the high-low. Very interesting tint and kind of floody but not obnoxiously so.

I prefer warmer tints and love the M91BW. For me it’s a perfect balance of power and tint. I use on either on a MD3 or MD1 body with high low rings all the time.
