One month runtime

I'm looking for a flashlight with a runtime of one month. It should run on a single AA or 18650 cell. The light output should be high enough to navigate complete dark rooms.

This might sound a little crazy but I'm really curious if there is something like this out there.

With dark adjusted eyes you could probably navigate completely dark rooms with moonlight mode that are available on many of the main stream of quality lights manufacturers you'll see here on CPF. With a single cell flashlight an 18650 battery could last that long or even longer depending on the specific light you get. Check any of the specs of a light you have an interest in and it should give a run time per lumen output to give a general idea of how long you can expect to get depending on the specific battery you put in the light. There are many choices to look at.

It's a fun thought experiment, but bear in mind that under real-world power outage/third world conditions you only use a flashlight ~5 hours a day total; as it was in the time before flashlights, you use ambient daylight during the day, only when you use the bathroom or after sunset will a light source see any use. You'll find yourself naturally going to bed earlier and waking at sunrise without artificial light, which is to the benefit of the battery life of any artificial lights you're using.

The bigger battery life concern for emergency outages is the battery-powered radio - if you have any concern for getting information and/or improving morale, this is left on nonstop during waking hours and sometimes beyond that. Larger cells are king here, as a modern 2-3D cell unit [on alkalines] will give you 200-300 hours of runtime.

I *think* the lowest M61 has been the LLLL ( and related, like the NLLLL and N219 LLLL ? )

I do see a couple of posts discussing an M61LLLLL but I sort of wonder if that might be a typo, or stuck keypress

Plugging in 1xAA or 1x18650 and 744 hours minimum finds 126 models in my database. Almost all of these are well under 1 lumen. Enough to read by or not trip over things in the dark. Some highlights:

  • The least expensive is the $20 Wowtac A2 with a 45 day firefly
  • Most Armyteks and all Zebralights have a firefly mode that can run for 2 months
  • Thrunite has a bunch for good prices
  • Most of the serious brands have several models with a firefly: Olight, Nitecore, Acebeam, Eagletac, Klarus, Rofis
  • Fenix hates firefly modes. They only have 1 light that qualifies: the UC35 V2.0

Under ground bunker light quest thread here.……post Cold War.

I'll try a Yuji in a 2 cell Maglite ML25 incan version, using alkalines then perhaps see how many weeks a pair of c sized Imedions would last.

My favorite pick: Pak-Lite with a 6 AA to 9 Volt battery adapter. Easy to improvise a waterproof container, even one that will float with the Pak-Lite and adapter inside.

Re: casino real money games

Plus one on the Pak-Lite, nightshade. I did a runtime test on one using a lithium 9v. Their ratings are conservative. As far as the M61LLLL goes, I'll find the post but I think I got one of the first ones back in the day... :)

Edit- Oops! It was an M61LLL as custom order from Gene back in 2012. Idea belonged to Leon2245, I just made the phone call. The Pak-lite I ran was on a Duracell, I could still see past my feet to walk around the house after 89 days on low. No further than that, but enough light to not step on legos or the cat...

multiholle --

You've been a CPF member for * SIX YEARS *,

and yet this is only your 4th posting ? ? ?

Guess you've been giving this question
a WHOLE LOT of thought . . . . .

Anyway --

My answer would be a Zebralight SC-5
(either Mark 1 or Mark 2 version is fine).
This is a single-cell AA Energizer L91 ultimate lithium

I can personally attest that even MY tired old eyes
(66 years, with cataract surgeries, and a
detached retina) can (if dark-adapted)
manage to find my way around a totally dark room
without bumping into things.

I've even managed to complete a crossword puzzle,
Sudoku puzzle, and the Celebrity Cypher
from my daily newspaper !

Quite an eye-opening experience for me.
(sorry for the pun)

:D

2 AA batteries, but original Minimag with a white 3mm LED replacing the original bulb, over a year of usable light (15th of May 2018-15th of May 2019), i had to stop the test due to battery leakage.

+1000 all Zebralights. One of the best candle modes of the factory lights. Manker too, but Zebralight quality is a probably a step above Manker.

Okay, I will play. :D

Zebralight runs 2928 hours on moonlight, which is way more than enough light for fumbling around the house in the dark.
