V11r modded to E21a 3500k, repacked control ring w Nyogel 767a

I like the 3500k E21a better, because it is more pink, than the 3500k 219b
I like the N219b 3000k better, because it is more orange, than the two 3500k

Initial V11r lumens on 16340 w 6000k low CRI XM-L2 was 0.01 low and 420 lumens max (spec is 1 lumen low, and 570 lumens max w 16340)
after the swap to 3500k High CRI E21a, 0.02 low, and 255 lumens maximum, that is a 40% drop

The control ring arrived very loose due to old grease. The Nyogel made it noticeably resistant to turning but can still be done with one finger.

Im waiting for a replacement reflector, atm the stock reflector produces rings in the spill w the E21a, plus there is a cross in the center of the beam when closer than 3" from the target. otoh, when shining on a wall 25 feet away, I like the tight hotspot w the E21a.

the V11r arrived with a metal switch cover that made noise and felt wrong. Installed the rubber switch cap, which I like better. The clip was not to my liking.. took it off..

E21a 3500k, YES!
I would do it again...
all opinions subject to change.. lol

relative tint, iphone auto white balance

the 3500k is "whiter" than incandescent.. makes for a nice evening light..

the V11r reflector makes a tighter hotspot than my RRT-01's that are flanking it.

Im really conflicted about the tailswitch on the V11r, but it has its strong points

Sunwayman V11r mod to LH351D 2700k

The beam is quite good, much better than with 219b and E21a.

Sometimes things just work out right, easily, the first time.

The larger die LH351D LED is a good match for the V11r reflector, that was originally paired with an XM-L2 from the factory.

low is 0.02 lumens, maximum is 385 lumens w 16340 at startup.

Im extremely pleased with the minimum output range, and pretty much blown away by the max output. The size and quality of the hotspot and the mostly smooth gradient blend of the spill, as well as the tint, are all excellent.

Holy guacamole, great tint choices on both. Late at night I love the warmer tints

thanks, I agree :)

The Stepless Infinitely Variable UI and sublumen range of the V11r, with a warm white high CRI LED that produces a large hotspot ("floody"), are a great combination for dark adapted situations, and close range use.

loved the V11r, gave it to dad and I miss it haha. got the Jetbeam RRt01 which is great too but the control ring on the V11r had such a nice tactile feel.

I agree, some of the sunwayman control rings feel very nice in stock form, and some of the RRT-01 feel less smooth and have less damping.

There is a lot of variation between samples. The amount of damping grease in each light varies. When I modify the LED in those lights, and the light is already disassembled, I also add damping grease to the control ring, if the factory feel is too loose.

I have had both V11r and RRT-01 that felt nice in stock form, and Ive also had both types of lights with control ring feel that I felt was too loose. They are not consistent.

If you decide you want to learn to disassemble and regrease the control ring, Im happy to share info on the process and the lubricant to use. Unfortunately it cannot be applied without disassembly. There are more photos in this thread that show a disassebled Sunwayman V10a..

it has the same construction as the V11r and the 2019 RRT-01. But, be careful, the Original RRT-01 disassembly is a bit more involved, requires unsoldering the LED star, and also removing the driver.. happy to help by PM if you like.

very nice mod.

Except for one or two o my flashlight, tint and beam quality are way more important than anything else...

I agree, light color quality is very important to me.
The Rotary UI is a favorite. I just got this V11r, this is what it looks like before an LED swap:

Im debating what to install instead.. which would you choose, 2700k LH351d, or 3000k 219b, or, 3500k LH351d, or 3500k 219b, or my personal favorite EDC the 219b 4500k.. hmmm decisions decisions :)

I have an hds and a tana triple with nichia 219b 4500k. These two are parts of my favorites. Samsung 4k is nice but lacks something, can't explain what.

agree
Samsung has lower Red spectrum output, and greener tint (higher duv value, above the BBL)..
N219b shows reds better, Samsung LH351d makes more lumens

tint difference (Duv)

Red Spectrum difference, high CRI R9, the red bar in the graphs, for the 219b

moderate CRI R9 in the Samsung

an example of Negative CRI R9, as also true in the XM-L of the stock sunwayman:
bRa3XIGl.png

output differences in a Sunwayman V11r
stock xml 420 lumens of Low CRI Ra, and negative CRI R9
LH351d 385 lumens of High CRI Ra
N219b, 260 lumens of Higher CRI R9

In my opinion, the e21a are really great up to 4000K. I havent tried the warmer optisolii, but I have zero complaints re the e21a either.

The 5000 and especially the 5700k e21a produce too much of a tint shift and are too rosy. The 5000k 219c I have in my emisar is more neutral.

Overall, in terms of a tint, everything looks unacceptable to me above 5000k if directly compared to the optisolii

there are a lot of good LED choices:
3nvJ217.png

LEDs vary is shape and size, and some work better with some lights than others

the E21a and Optisolis are very flat, difficult to get a good beam in a V11r
the 219b have great color, for my taste, the beam is OK in a V11r
the LH351d are the brightest, have the largest hotspot, and produce a near perfect beam in a V11r

Wow, that's very generous of you to offer, but I'm afraid well beyond my skill sets or desire or free time haha. You are clearly a fan of this light! Where are you picking these up? Let me know if you're willing to part with one of these!
