    They are, but tough to come by in good condition. Internally they are shorter than Malkoff tailcaps so using one generally requires use of a shorter IMR cell.

This particular drop-in also has a nice tint for a 6200k emitter. FWIW, my M361 219B v3 does not cycle reliably with the ring set on low.

    It's really an extraordinarily useful light that's at home on the nightstand or in a pocket. Shown here on the lowest output;

    That is really nice. How much shorter does this make the overall length? Would 2 CR123ís still work? I have an M61NLL and for around the house and would love a little more compact type light.

    The standard Malkoff tailcap measures just over 41mm, the SF unshrouded cap measures 30mm plus another 5mm for the rubber switch cover. So it reduces the light's AOL by about a quarter inch.

    Two CR123A primary batteries will fit with no problem, but not with much room to spare.

    Latest iteration of my 3P clone, which is now more Malkoff than ever;

    • Overready Delrin/aluminum body
    • Overready white Delrin bezel ring
    • Surefire Z44 bezel
    • Malkoff M361 219B v.3 drop-in
    • Malkoff Tricap*
    • Malkoff grip ring* (from MDx body extender kit)
    • KP 18350 900mAh protected cell
    • Solarforce lanyard ring with DIY finger lanyard

    *The grip ring and Tricap work nicely for holding the light with a cigar hold.

    Here is the light configured as above, in its normal position on the night stand;

    An easy reach over to the top of the light to click it on. The illuminated Delrin ring provides enough light for bedroom navigation;

    The Tricap allows tail standing for bouncing light off the ceiling;

    Although this 3P size light can work for pocket carry, I've found that it doesn't offer much size advantage over my MD2 light. After trying different configurations of this light for different purposes, I think I've found the perfect set up for nightstand duty.

    That's a nice setup. Those delrin grip rings also work really well on Oveready's Z35 and Z70 bodies.

    I don't use a malkoff for a bedside light because they are all too bright!
    Hello darkness my old friend,
    I've come to talk with you again...
    I liked neutral tints before they were cool.

    I find my OR P20 with zero rez tail cap to be the perfect around the house bedside light. With either a M61LLL or a M31LLL.

    Itís more compact than a cr123 MDC.

    The 2 i currently own, MD2 and BG v1.
    I've got a few lights, but theres something untangible that draws me to these 2 lights.
    When the budget expands some more, I'll have to add something but seriously eh above 2 lights do everything i need.

    Mine is a yellow SF G2 with an Oveready clip, a AIT Gernade bead, and a Malkoff M61LLLL! That's the M61 Low, Low, Low, Low that Dan at Oveready had for a while a few years back.

    Love this Drop-in, and wish I had bought a more.

    I have several Malkoffs and love them. But I have never seen a Malkoff that would work as a bedside light for me. None that I know of have low enough output. I run Zebralight or Manker at night because of their incredible sub-lumen modes.

    His single AA goes pretty low. Iím like you and was using my HDS. But his AA especially in neutral works great

    Good to know. I just reviewed the specs on the Malkoff and see only one is sub-lumens on low. MDC HA 1AA is 0.3 lumens on low. Now if they would just come back in stock!

    Indoors I like either neutral or warm tints to my eyes there not anywhere near as bright as cool whites. Outdoors I have tried to use them and they just donít cut it for me.I have been playing with my M61LLL V3 as a nightstand light and like it a lot itís just a tad bit to bright even on low. I never thought of myself as being hard to please but guess I am after all😁

    But what is the exact color of the Lego you stepped on in the wee hours this morning on your way to the can? You still have not addressed this most critical question.

    Lol. Iím not exactly sure of the color but then again because I had a reliable light that works every time I need it I was able to avoid said LEGO in the first place😂😂😂

    A used MDC AA cool white with the older 1-3v head just showed up in my mailbox today and the sub-lumen low mode is perfect. Have it glowing on my bedside table as I type. Also, Geneís cool white lights have been pretty darn good in my opinion and I just put away a hi cri zebralight to give this light a workout. Nice tint for cool white to my eyes. Great light, happy to have one again.
    edit: forgot to mention the other cool ďfeatureĒ is that you can set the light to come on at whichever the 3 levels you want. 👍🏼

    Just received my MDC neutral CR123. This is now my bedside light. The low is perfect for not disturbing the wife when coming to bed late. The settings are well placed and perfect for around the house like looking under sinks, checking the backyard, or needing a little extra light in the attic.

    These used to be hit or miss for sub-lumen, not sure about current version. I would imagine with the udated driver with higher output, this would be harder to achieve, idk.

    M361 variant with h/l will get you sub-lumen
