So it took me long enough to realize that the 16650 battery can be used in 2 CR123A lights (narrower than an 18650 and it will fit (most?) tubes). Saw a recommendation for the Sanyo UR16650ZTA 2500mAh and the mtnelectronics recommendation says:

4.35v charger required for maximum capacity.

I have an XTAR VP2 and was looking at the linked HKJ review...

About a third of the way down, at section: 4.35 volt charging (Switch at 3.8 volt) review says:

A few LiIon batteries can be charged with a higher voltage than the usual 4.2 volt, either 4.30 volt or 4.35 volt. This charger supports the 4.35 volt type, the 4.30 volt type must be charged with 4.20 volt or can be charged with the 4.35 volt if the voltage of the charger is slightly low (This MUST be verified on the charger first).

I'm not sure if this will be automatic if I put in a Sanyo UR16650ZTA 2500mAh?

Sorry, wrong end of the stick, so I'm editing.

Although I wouldn't fret it, just use 4.2. You'll never notice the lesser capacity amd the cell will last longer.

No, that does not work automatically. It is only charged to 4.35V charge end voltage when the voltage switch is at 3.8V rated voltage.

Ok, I looked for and found the voltage switch (palm forehead smack). Thank you sbj! I've had this XTAR VP2 since Feb 2015 and it has served me well.

For safety reasons very important!

So far, I have completely renounced such batteries.
