Here are a few easy ways to narrow:
- what is your budget?
- what are you wanting it to be able to do? Flood (light up big area) or throw (narrower beam for seeing father away) or balance? How bright?
- by rechargeable, do you mean built in charger? Does it matter if the batteries are proprietary?

Yes let us know if AAA or AA size battery. AAA will be the smallest but offer less runtime. So it's always a trade off.
IfAAA lumintop Tool is hard to beat.

Less than $100
About the rechargeable I'm not sure i think one that I can plug in
I know I don't want one with strobe feature
No tail cap switch
I don't want one with a lot of features
Tough
Can fit in pocket

This right here, I love mine. But it does have a tail cap switch...

MecArmy has some small USB plug-in models...only have experience with the PT16 (I like it) but they have even smaller plug-in keychain sized lights that might fit the bill.
