Zebralight H52 ribbed and not ribbed?

I need some help.

I just bought an H53w 2 days ago thinking I was going to get a noticeable upgrade in light output compared to my H51 that I bought 5 years ago. I was pretty disappointed because even accounting for the perceived brightness differences when comparing a warm tint to cold tinted light I just could not see any appreciable difference in output. After a bunch of fiddling with settings, battery changes and head scratching, I checked my Amazon receipt from 5 years ago and it shows that I actually bought an H52 cool white.:hairpull: The reason I was so confused is that my version is smooth bodied, not the ribbed version that is currently sold.
I've done a bunch of searching here on the forums and on the net and havent been able to find any info on the history/differences for the H52.

Enlighten me please!

The earliest, initial runs of H52 did not have the machined ribs.

So it was strictly cosmetic. No changes to output, runtime or functionality?

Crap I feel so stupid. Wasted $60+

IMO, it's still a good purchase. It's still a great tool. My Zebralight has lived through everything that has killed many of my more favored lights.
