In the early days many used what was called a Walleye lens. They were more of a light dispersal thing. Franco did a bi-focal thing in the early 20's for 2C coal miners light to both disperse light and focus it forward.
When PK did Vital Gear he used a "dome" or modern Walleye on some.

Don't know how well it can be seen in the photo but there are two distinct lenses in one here.

A close up of it.

To hot wire either?
The Franco takes an E10 screw in bulb so a #224 will make it throw a lot better.
The Vital Gear was a module like SureFire P60's so I suppose a 3x123 bulb could be used with high output RCR's.

All of my VG heads have domed lenses.

A compare between a Malkoff M31 in a domed lens VG head and a flat lens Z44.

Domed has a less defined spot.
Better throw though.

Flat has defined spot.

Is there any incandescent flashlights utilizing aspherical lens?
These type of bulbs are designed to work with reflectorless cheap flashlights. Aspherical lens is integrated with globe.
As BF mentioned, they used to make different asperical incandescent flashlights and lanterns before.
They use aspherical lens on some cars headlight too called projector light..
There was also huge incandescent bulb with aspherical lens called ocianlight to guide ships.
Incandescent bulbs spread light in much wider angle compare to LEDs and reflector capture more light to redirect.
There was another similar thread in past I couldn't find. Maybe somebody or moderator can find it please.
