Can I update this older Surefire to modern standards?

I have an older Surefire Kl1 that never saw much use.
Output wise, it just doesn't qualify for much use these days.

Can I mod this thing, or find a new head that would make it a good light but recent standards? Thanks.

(I'm working on posting a photo, new to these forums and didn't realize it wasn't easy)

Malkoff VME ...

Nice.

Now it's coming back to me. I remember thinking that it wasn't worth spending $100+ for a Malkoff head for the light, when I could spend half that on a modern light and get good performance (this would never be a hard use light).

Are there any less expensive options that may not be as rugged as the Malkoffs?

Sure, check out Lumens Factory

I like the look of their stuff. Their smoothie head looks good.
The E series 3-9v head might be tempting if it was a 3 mode.

However, it seems their options are limited, and would still be more than the cost of a new, modern light.

Maybe the old Surefire will just go back in the old flashlight drawer.

Or you can sell it to me and go buy a light you're looking for 😁

BTW, you might be able to get vme head and a Malkoff module for around $60 if you are patient on the forums.

Regardless good luck!

What do you consider to be the cost of a new modern light ?

Or, perhaps better rephrased as, how much are you looking to spend ?

Well, I guess I should be more specific.
For the type of use and frequency that this light would be used, I could spend $40-60 on a new light that will serve the purpose as well, if not better.

While it would be neat to bring the old light back to life, It doesn't look like there's an option that makes sense for me. ($60+ on a single mode head, or $100+ on a nice malkoff)

If there was a 2 mode (low/hi) head out there that would get me 300ish lumens on high... for $30 or so... that would be something I'd be interest in. But hey... there's a lot of things we wish existed, ha.

Ok. Yes, plenty of options for a new light $40-60. Not plenty of options for an E-series compatible light engine / bezel assembly for $30.
