I HATE the Carley Smiley. Anyone who has purchased Carley bulbs with the Lens-End knows what I'm talking about. The intent was good, but the execution ruins an otherwise beautiful beam with an ugly zig-zag of light. I thought about a way to get rid of the Smiley about 5 minutes ago. I took some sandpaper and sanded the tip! It only took about 1 minute and my bulb became lensed with a frosted tip. The crazy thing is that the focused light without the reflector actually looks GOOD now! It's diffuse and has a slightly oblong shape, almost like a slightly off centered P60 or something. The best part is that it is barely noticable while using a reflector. Time to go through all my lensed 'Stars' from Carley and sand all the tips!
