I've been searching around for a bit on this question and haven't found very much. Does anybody know if metal halide or low/high pressure sodium lamps consume more or less power during their warm up period? My initial thought would be less because they are giving off less heat. However after talking to a few people I've gotten mixed answers so I'm curious to get some more thoughts and possibly some actual data on the topic.

Less. Mine run off an electronic ballast and I have a kill-o-watt meter monitoring my energy use. I have a 1K MH light and the power draw ramps up over the ~2 minute start up.
