So is the AIRPPM the final realization that you need to put a spring on BOTH ends of the battery tube? About time. It would have been nice to see a 700-800 lumen medium 2 mode as well, but at least it doesn't just go from 330 to full blast 4000 lumens. A semi-turbo would also have been nice but mostly just because I like to have options. 2000-3000 lumen Hi 2 or whatever.

So it comes with a dedicated battery. Does it also run on a regular (already charged) 21700?

No, the i4000R requires the i Series battery it comes with to operate. This special battery has positive and negative contacts on one end which is why a normal 21700 will not work.
