Thread: Custom Green LED Eiger from Peak LED Solutions

Default Custom Green LED Eiger from Peak LED Solutions

I recently lost my every day nighttime flashlight, a single AA CMG Infinity with a Military Spec blue green LED. This caused me to go through my older nighttime flashlights, including a single AA CMG Infinity with a red LED, a two AA LED-Lite with three green LEDs, a 9v Starlite from Rigel Systems with an adjustable paired-set of blue and green LEDs, and a very old single AAA Peak LED Solutions with an early green LED that casts an H pattern in the beam.

I don't like red as a nighttime light because it washes out so many colors, the LED-Lite and the Starlite are too bulky for every day use, and I stopped using the Peak LED Solutions long ago because of the H pattern in the beam. Of all the lights, however, the old Peak LED Solutions came the closest to the size, color and brightness I prefer.

I checked the web and found Peak LED Solutions is still around, although they no longer advertise any lights with green LEDs. I emailed the company to ask if they happened to have any Eiger Key Ring model lights with green LEDs. The company president, Robyn Seabert, emailed me that they did have a few newer green LEDs and they would be happy to put together a custom Eiger for me. Robyn was actually amazed I had such an old green LED that it had an H pattern in the beam.

My new green LED Eiger arrived today and it is great. It is larger than my old AAA and it has Peak LED Solutions' new Quantum Tunneling Composite (QTC) technology, which provides adjustable brightness. Robyn asked about my preferred brightness range and ultimately decided to put a custom resistor in my light that would limit the output to 35 lumens or so instead of the 90 to 115 lumens that is typical for their white LED Eigers. The QTC feature does cause my light to flicker a little when the light is turned on to just a glow, but I use it mostly in the 5 to 10 lumen range and at that level, or higher, it is completely stable.

Some notable vintage color-/low-output flashlights you've mentioned above. Those types of lights are an interest of mine here too, thanks for posting.

Cyan emitter may be another option you might like.

Glad to hear Peak was able to get you successfully set up with something new and custom.

Default Custom Green LED Eiger from Peak LED Solutions

I ordered an eiger with a red LED about a year ago. works great for my needs. Might just have to give green a try as well.

I think they told me the green LEDs they have are around 530nm. My Eiger is closer to the light green in archimedes' Avatar than the dark green in his Level 2 insignia. It is a very cheerful color.

Thanks for the information. I would have to agree with you about red LEDs washing out color. definitely takes a bit of getting used to. Green sounds interesting. I have also heard that amber renders color fairly well.

Sounds like great customer service. I happen to have 3 peaks inbound.
