MD2 M61T - Osram Flat White thrower?

Currently, it seems like the Osram Flat White is the go-to 'Thrower' LED, capable of producing an extremely tight, focused beam for maximum candela per lumen.

As such, it seems like it would be a fantastic option for a future M61T.

The Modlite OKW is basically the same size as the MD2 (18650, 30mm head), yet with the Osram is putting out 680lm / 69k Candela.

Given the outrageous price of a Modlite, I think a Malkoff light with similar performance would be quite popular as a rifle light / pocket thrower.

Anyone else interested?

I'm interested. Sounds like a group buy! That E2XTD has some big disadvantages....

(1) E-series head, so not applicable to the C-series crowd. C-series heads can be adapted to e-series bodies.

(2) Amp draw is high. 3.5A isn't a req on most M61s. Probably limits battery options.

(3) DD limits runtime.

(4) P60 format is more LEGO-able.

(5) Tight voltage constraints. M61 is usually 3.4-9v, so more efficient if you want to use multiple cells.

I'm not an e-series guy, so these are drawbacks to me.

(1) If the E2XTD was a C-series head, it still wouldn't meet your requirements 2, 3 and 5.

(2) This is why M61 drop-ins and heads are dogs performance-wise

(3) Regulation limits performance

(4) Debatable, E-series is mighty Lego-able too

(5) See my point #2 above

It's ridiculous to ask for Modlite OKW (or E2XTD) performance and still want long runtime and power source flexibility in a 6P size light. A simple emitter change in a M61T without driving it harder (and all the ramifications of doing so) won't do squat.

All of this said, a C-series version of this head sounds like it might be close to what you're asking for;

Good points. Please know I'm not saying there are no advantages to the E2XTD. Pros and cons to everything. But I'm not looking for 70k lux at 1m. And my mistake for not stating such earlier. But i'd like more than 12k (current m61t). Is it possible to get more than 12k with osram flat white in a m61 p60? Dunno, as it hasn't been designed yet. I think it's an interesting GB idea though.

Ya the M61T will our throw the standard M61. But not by much at all. Especially the new M61. 450 lumens. You can definitely see the difference but it ain't a lot. Now put the M61T in a MD3 with some 18500's and a22.3 head and compare it to the M61 standard and it's a much bigger gap now.

The M61HOT is the best performing M61, at 20k lux is not bad. The other top-performing M61 drop-in is the M91B. ;-)

I would be shocked if C-series versions of the new E2XT heads are not in the works.

The 91 is great. No question on that. Very versatile but it gets its throw with horsepower. When Your using lithium ions it's not a problem. It runs flat out till it's dead. But on Primaries when it kicks down do to lover voltage you have a flooder. A great one yes, but you lose your throw. That being said it's still one of my favorite Malkoff Dropins.

I run my M61T on 2x 18350, dont know exact lumens or lux but it is a visible improvement so I am glad it's 9V rated.

Yes I should of said on 2X lithium ion it clearly has more throw then the standard M61. With both on a single 18650 the difference is not that much

I wouldn't mind if the group buys me one. I wonder why the secret? They've made the other leds known.

someone mentioned that for the price of the lights, the LED should be known to the buyer. then again I am not sure the buyer may be that interested as long as Its reliable.

Modlight prices are at least 3 times against the real item value: they manage to sell a Keeppower 18650 3500mAh for... $35!

That price is for two cells. Still a little high, but not too far off from Malkoffs price. I don't think either Malkoff or Modlite want to be cheap sources for batteries, more a convenience to add some extra cells when buying lights from them.
