If you remember 219B emitters gives you rings in the beam just because of the fact that Nichia domeis smaller and lower than XPG.
Having Osrams in it will 100% give a lot of artifacts if emitter height is not adjusted in relation to reflector focal point...
    Just a thought.
Maybe that is the reason he use TIR in present modules E2X and HDXT

    I agree. It's just that you hadn't specified T/HOT, just M61/91.

To build Osram whites, in a M61T or Hot, I think Malkoff would need to change reflectors, and finish smooth vs OP

The T and HOT would almost certainly use an optic. You can probably get a LOT more out of the beam with an optic of P60 size, than a reflector. Especially a reflector so chonk.

That all being said, from my experience the rings on the 219b modules are caused by the 16.5mm head. This is also true of my MDC, but in all my lights with the M61 in Surefire hosts or with the 22.3 mdx head, the beam is perfectly smooth out to the edges. I'll do some experimenting and closer looks tonight. Curious if this is actually the case.

We should probably move this to the Front Porch though, to stay on GB related topics here.... we always turn everything into the Front Porch LOL.

This is 100% true of my Surefire hosts.

The 22.3 still has a very slight outer ring, and it is marginally better than the 16.5 when the correct lens is used in the 16.5. Don't use the same lens in the 16.5 as the 22.3--it moves the module farther away from the opening in the head and creates a more obvious ring. In the 16.5, use the VME lens that fits inside the brass outer rim of the module. There really is no obvious advantage in using the 22.3 head over the 16.5 head for the reflector modules if you do this.

I wouldn’t mind a throwy AA format in a Malkoff. I love my AA Malkoff’s but would like more throw.

Problem with doing a GB for the 61T is that genes going to be coming out with one. Might be 6 months but.......

I would like to see a AAA cell throwy beam in 4000K-5000K that can use 10440 or Lithium, NiMH, Alkaleaks...for weirdos 🤪 or emergencies.

    300+ lumens on the 10440.

I’d be in for one too but compared to my other aa lights, my Malkoff aa’s are already the best throwers.

one of my most used lights is a 1AA MDC body with a E1T head running a eneloop. Makes for a lovely under 100lm thrower that runs for like 90min. I can also put it on a 2AA body for full output, it’s like having two separate throw heads.

I would be all in for another E1T head with a SST if it’s possible.

also I would be in on any dropin with more that 3 L’s.

Any interest in an M91B that is High CRI? Would love to see one with a Samsung LH351D "dogfarts" bin, especially dedomed! Would make a great candidate given how similar it is to the XP-L die.

    In!
BUT dedoming can be done only by you or Gene unless you can convince seller to do it for you.
Leave the dome and 5700K please

You can put me down for one of these. I work plain clothes and always have a light in my pocket. High, for immediate illumination, then I can turn the ring for lower output. Just like my old 9N

    BodyGuard w Hi/Lo ring.

I'm down for a High Noon M91! Maybe I'll just dedome a few for shits and see how they turn out. Let me see what's out there. It looks like it may be this guy or the red next! Wonder what would drum up more interest.......

I've updated the lists a bit too, deleted the M61 LLLL SST-20 because it was just me. Adding a M61T Osram 1/2mm potential, I don't know how those would work in the M61 reflector but can always ask Gene.

Oh I’d be somewhat interested in a sst20 in a LLL or similar output. Would have to decide on m61 vs m31 and LLL vs LLLL I suppose...

Recently picked up an old M30 here and on 1 AA it has a lot more throw than Gene’s regular AA lights, though with a lot less usable spill and a few rings. I will usually run this module on one 4.2v but it has good versatility. Interesting Gene no longer offers anything in this voltage range.

Sounding Board list for M61 LLLL (4L) SST-20 4000K is up and ready. I planned on hosting another LLLL GB sometime closer to the New Year 2021. We will likely be sticking with SST-20 4000K and 4000K only unless significant interest develops beyond. Remember, we need 20 units to start a GB. I'd like to see at least 10 names on the Sounding Board list before posting a formal Group Buy.

RE: 4500K- we can discuss options for other K temps. If we use emitters that Gene has we will have limited option. This is probably the best way to go to ensure the best possible results. But we can discuss further. I am not inclined to host a partial/ split GB, as that introduces too much Chaos. There is only so much market for these, and I suspect most of that is satisfied at present.

RE: Amber/ Red options- we already have a potential GB list for some Red emitter option dropins- as can be seen this interest is very limited. Limited interest dropin level + limited interest in red emitters = very unlikely to get the minimum of 20 on there, but we can always make a list for it!
