I'm not sure of the answer but have a few ideas-
1. USB C - there's no wrong side up like the other formats so it's easier to use
2. USB-C - as laptops got thinner there's less room for thicker A, and C can carry data and power
3. C - I think I read that some places were passing regulations requiring one standard charging plug
4. C - the newer "PD" charging blocks that charge phones and other devices twice as fast "smartly" all use C , but some have a dual A port
5. C - one possible disadvantage is I've seen one article about C sockets being more fragile and some being more damaged
6. C ports can transfer data using latest USB protocol up to 10 gigabits per second
7. C can handle up to 100 watts of power to power a laptop

I have a laptop that uses C and it has worked well, and a Yubikey digital security key with no problems but to plug it into my tower PC I got an inexpensive
C to A plug and it works fine with it also. So if you need to convert one format like micro USB or other to C there are a lot of inexpensive conversion plugs out there but watch for male and female designations you need and some may have too thick ends that interfere with adjacent ports on some laptops.
