Bored out my Surefire M3

Did it last night. A lot of aluminum dust and oil everywhere, but I did it.

- Used an old OLD Milwaukee drill sitting upside down in my vise as a lathe.
- Piece of 1/2" aluminum bar cut to length
- Heavy vinyl tape on the bar to increase the radius, and also to secure the sandpaper
- A lot of sandpaper and luck



Moddin' ain't easy. Got a nice paper cut on my right palm from spinning sandpaper....


Current module and my favorite is a Nichia from Nailbender. Perfect bright white tint and a nice centered spot. Back when I ordered it, I wanted a unit so I could also use primaries in a pinch, so this has a buck driver and I ran it on two 17500's. I broke out my old 1500mah AW Li-Ion 18500's I used to use in my Olight M30 and they fit perfectly in the M3 now. Most of my 18650's slide in perfectly, though the couple higher capacity ones stick in the middle. I'm planning on putting together a single li-ion version that I can run with an 18650 and a spacer, but for now I'm good to go.

Nice. It is amazing what you can do with an idea and some determination.

I have used a cylinder hone to polish the hammer area of an air rifle, followed by some fine grit sandpaper with the method that you used above. I use my lathe to bore flashlights, though.

Had a moment of clarity as I was originally holding the light wearing a glove, in light of Adam Savage's hand injury on his lathe, what would have happened if I had gotten the glove caught in the spinning rod. I then took the glove off.
