I want to warn others to be very, very careful buying protected cells from IMR Batteries! They are currently selling a Sanyo NCR18650GA that is capable of 10A continuous output, but it has a third-party protection circuit added that is only capable of 5A continuous. They don't mention that 5A limit anywhere which seems extremely misleading to me.

I bought a couple Sanyo NCR18650GA cells from them recently. According to their website these protected cells can handle 10A continuous, but I clearly found otherwise! Those protected cells malfunctioned in my device that was pulling about 5.8A for just 20 minutes. Over the course of 40 minutes total, my device was turned on for right at 20 minutes (I was keeping track since this was the first run) and after checking the batteries I found their protection circuits melted and severely deformed!

I have emailed them this information numerous times, but they have never replied. I even wrote a review for the battery on their website (and I confirmed the review via the automated email they sent me) yet they won't post my review! And despite all these things, the appear to refuse to update their website to clearly state the protection circuit on these cells has a 5A continuous discharge limit. So as I said, people should be careful ordering from them.

Good to know, since some of the older PCB circuits cut off between 7A-8A, with the newer generation hovering around 10A.

I don't use protected cells, so it's not a bother to me, having no series lights.

As of today the website lists 5A current limit from the circuit
FINALLY! I am glad to see they eventually updated their website. For the record they did refund me for my two cells (awhile back) but I have been asking them to update their website for several weeks -- with no response or website change -- before I finally posted here.
