I just received a Sofirn C01S and am really enjoying it.

It uses a 4000k SST-20, and it has 2 modes. I find both modes very useful indoors, I especially like the beam shape, which has a nice wide hotspot with even brightness.

Here are some comparison photos

fwiw, the Sofirn C01 is being reissued with a 3400k High CRI 5mm LED

imo the little AAA Sofirn host is very practical, and includes a reversible clip that can be used on a hat.

There is also a Sofirn C01R available. It uses a 660nm Red LED. Some of you may know that Red light has therapeutic properties.

All versions of AAA Sofirn, C01, C01S, C01R, are excellent options imo.

I viewed SST-20 4000k currently offered on their site..

So, how long did it take for your light to arrive?

5600k Rocks!

I have both the 5600k and the 3400k versions of the C01 and while they both render colors well, I prefer the 3400k version quite a bit more, especially outside. It even seems brighter to my eyes.

The beam pattern on that C01S is very nice.

Re: First Impressions Sofirn C01S

you will want a light with more lumens than a single AAA

maybe an 18650 light

Less lumens is best close up on enameled engine parts and SS under carriage parts

Bounce back can be a mutha with more than 60 lms

Also, AAA fits nicely between front teeth when both hands are needed

Headlamps are too bulky, I keep knocking them off:poke:

sofirn is not making a 5600k aaa atm, althought I prefer it

the McGizmo Sapphire offers the 5600k Yuji option, for a significant host fee

Those lights make about 8 lumens.. single mode
just enough to see things in your hands..

I think you would have liked the 6500k Optisolis modded JetU...
lpHMLF9l.jpg

but they are not presently available either..

lights that meet your criteria may include:
The JetU aaa, with 3 modes, if you like a twisty with memory

I favor the aaa Tool, for tailclicky option, and I like the beam from the pebbled TiR

Thanks Jon,

I have looked at the Tool AAA. I like OSRAM, and body turning looks mouth friendly lol

Super tiny light, and right now under 10 ducats on Azm.. :)

Re: First Impressions Sofirn C01S

I've had my C01S for a while now. The beam - shape, tint and CRI are all amazing, but I really wish it had 3 modes. The knurling however eats my pockets alive!

I'm definitely interested in another 5mm C01, I just wish there was a more neutral option, somewhere in the 4000K-4500K range, that's my sweet spot.

Thanks for this thread, Jon. I just put in an order. The C01 with warm Yuji is so useful around the house. I'm sure I am going to like the C01S too.

Re: First Impressions Sofirn C01S

I was recently gifted one of these gems by Run4jc, a shiny red one. As a diehard E01 fan, I was skeptical but willing to give it a spin. Glad I did! The beam with the optic is fantastic, Dan said it was "Like a triple" and that makes sense in use. Broad and smooth. Tint/cr-i are excellent. The two levels make it quite versatile. I'm 21 hours into a low level runtime test with a brand new Energizer lithium, and can't believe the light this is still putting out. Still a lumen or two. Way brighter than middle-of-the-night fridge run needs. So far it's a great little light. Thanks, Dan! :twothumbs

I ordered mine from AliExpress - they estimated 33 days but it took about 10 days. I was shocked.

You are welcome, and thanks for the run time test. I'm actually carrying one today. Nice little lights. A sleeper of sorts!

Re: First Impressions Sofirn C01S

Just shy of 34 hours and still going strong. Unreal...

And edit: Energizer alkaline, my mistake...

Re: First Impressions Sofirn C01S

Ok, figure 36+ hours of sustained low level output on an Energizer alkaline. Sometime between that number and when I woke up, it dimmed down to moonlight, and finally went out. Out of curiosity, I took the cell out and popped it into my Vinh modded Yuji E01, and it fired right up. Dim, but certainly still useful for middle of the night house navigating or picking out socks in the morning. I left it having been running at that level for an hour plus when I left the house this morning. I'll be curious to see if it's on when I get home. IMHO, phenomenal performance by the C01s! Thanks again, Dan. :twothumbs

Re: First Impressions Sofirn C01S

Total of 8 hours now, "dead" cell from the C01s running in my E01. This might be the ultimate AAA combo- C01 with great beam, tint, and higher output and still great runtime, and then the indestructable cockroach E01 to vampire every last mah out of your cells. Off to order another C01 or two.

Happy youre happy with the little AAA lights.. Im enjoying them too
thanks for the runtests showing the 5mm 3200k Yuji LED uses even less power than the SST-20 4000k

fwiw, the Sofirn C01 w 5mm high cri is being re-released, this time in 3400k

there is also a red 670nm 5mm LED coming in the same C01 host

and there is now also a 3 mode driver, reversible from LMH to HML
presently in the CO1R w 660nm red xp-e2 led
