Lithium is probably your #1 choice... but heat/cold factors (truck cab temps) I wouldn't know.

2xAA, almost certainly; being on the road, having access to the ubiquitous AA cell for refills is paramount IMO.
My emergency car light kit utilizes 2xAA LSD NiMH (i.e. Eneloops), with lithium primaries for backup.
That way, it's 'guilt-free lumens' & free recharges after use, but always having lithium cells available in case things get rough.

I prefer (1x)AA for this type of use, specifically Peak El Capitan (or Logan 17500) since those will run on essentially any available chemistry that fits.
Mine is routinely stocked with a lithium AA primary (not Li-Ion) , although a low-self-discharge NiMH (eneloop) would be a very reasonable alternative.

The obvious choice is CR123A's, or lithium AA's for long term storage that is subject to differences in temperature. I go with quality brand CR123A's as I trust them more than quality brand lithium AA's.

I am using Energizer Lithium's in cars and boat. I check them twice a year for voltage. They handle 100F and -15F temps just fine.
