    Obviously.

This was the video that convinced me to give HDS a try.

Who needs to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you have friends on CPF?

Really, that's nothing compared to the picture that Henry used to have on the HDS front page of a light that he spent hours abusing and was dented all to hell but still worked perfectly.

I'm receiving my first HDS in the next 2 weeks or so, but I don't own any firearms. Is it recommended to shoot at them first before using them?

Sure that is the best, but a Sledge hammer would also work.

I am extra careful not to drop my HDS lights...I’d hate to damage the floor.

I saw the posting about the LED swap and the broken power supply in the sticky thread, “Actual HDS Updates…NOT from Shorty.”

Are people putting the entire head into an oven or using a blow torch for the entire head to melt the solder for the LED swap? If so, that is wild. I am probably misunderstanding something.

What other mishaps have you seen?

Oh the stories they could tell I am sure......... People do stupid things and then want to take no responsibility if it goes wrong.

Hope to hear some stories too.....

I just received my first HDS light, a Rotary with the 219b sw45k LED. I was going to visit my parents in NL, but those plans have been cancelled by the pandemic so it sat with them for a long time. I was able to get my parents to send it to a friend in NYC who kindly forwarded it through a courrier service to me, in Argentina. It travelled about 16400 km total (if you connect its 4 destinations linearly) in 284 days which comes down to an average travelling speed of 2,4 km/h. My science teacher taught me that light travels faster than that.. Maybe he lied?

    On to my first impressions.

Rotary UI: Love it. I got an RRT01 a few days ago and everything that's done wrong on their rotary switch is done right here: (almost) full 360° turn, logarithmic output as you turn, no dead rotating part where the LED doesn't even turn on, it's easy to find the rotating part since it's on the flashlight's tail, it has more resistance so it doesn't rotate too easily.

Build quality: Very good, just what I expected from an HDS flashlight. Feels solid, I like that the crenellations on the bezel are very smooth. It's also a bit smaller than it looks on pictures.

Beam profile: Pretty narrow beam, but that's also something I knew before purchasing. Makes the 200 lumens max output look like more.

Tint: This is my first sw45k. I don't find it too pink at all, it's actually a pretty pure white. I was almost afraid I'd find it too pink, but I can't see any pink at all. I might be colourblind. It makes all my other LEDs except for the sw40 look yellow/green.

Output: Very very nice lows. Much lower than my Zebralights. Max output is bright enough for my use. Has more lux than my SC64c LE on its turbo output (828 lumens) but then again the beam is much more focused. It's still light outside so I'll update this when I remember once I tried it at night!

Since the BeCu HDS and the Stainless Steel HDS were kind of expensive I invited today a quality specialist for an independend QA chack. Here some pictures that I was doing during the inspection.

By the way the two HDS lights passed quality check without any findings!

I received my first HDS light last week and I love it. I've encountered an issue though where upon rotating the tailcap I sometimes get short bursts of the highest output and sometimes it even gets stuck for a bit. I managed to get it on video once: https://imgur.com/UN02cX3

I've already e-mailed Henry about this and he's willing to fix this for me, I just have to send him the light. I appreciate this a lot since it's a light I bought on the secondary market. Now on to the even bigger problem: I live in Argentina, sending the light in would set me back over $110.

I took off the tailcap (full disclosure: against Henry's advice) and took the pictures you can see below. I had hoped that one of the fingers of the feelers had broken off and was making contact when it wasn't supposed to, but everything looks good to my eyes. Does anyone see anything off?

Dan: do you think it's safe to show Henry these pictures, or will he ban me from talking to anyone HDS related again?

Too late. Henry has seen them. Monday is HDS for me (well, at the factory day so to speak) so when I opened up CPF... I was and am sitting next to Henry... I don't even get my own darn cubical here!
While they look fine in the photos, he can't test it which is what he needs to do in order to figure out the issue, especially since everything LOOKS ok in the photos.

If you're willing to do some diagnostic on your own, I might try setting preset A to something other than maximum for testing. It is possible that the issue is not that the rotary level is getting disturbed, but that preset A is getting recalled by something holding the button down when you are manipulating the rotary control.

You could put one of those privacy screen films on your screen, that way he won't be able to tell you're looking at non-consensually taken apart flashlights.

On a more serious note, I put the tailcap back on again. The good news is the knob (don't tell Henry I called it that) rotates smoother now than it did before. The even better news is that I haven't had any more flashes - yet. It ain't over till the fat lady sings, though. I'll keep you both up to date and in case it happens again I guess next time a friend travels to USA he's taking an expensive flashlight for a trip.

Thanks for the idea. I'll give that a try probably.

Sounds as though a contaminate might have gotten on the contacts. I don't suppose you have any of the HDS thread lube around? If you do, and I'm not saying to take the tail apart again, but if it was ever in that conditions again, I would clean the contacts and put a light coat of https://www.hdssystems.com/Products/ORingKitBat/ on it... not the fingers, but the contact plate.

Everything looked very clean, but just to be sure I wiped the contact pads with 96% alcohol. I don't have the lube you sell at HDS, only the Haynes Lubri-Film.

If it happens again I'll lubricate the contact plate. Thanks.
