17670 batteries ? Where they go?

What happened to the 17670 battery market? I have Surefires and Ultrafire mods using 6P format. I tried looking for some on Ebay hardly any but one at 18 bucks a piece! Geez

Ya 16650 are much more popular so work has been done to increase capacity.I use keeppower 2500 mah. Works great in all my 2-cells.

All the 'cool kids' run naked cells, unless they're running them in series.

Protected cells are for noobs, IMO.

THank you all much im looking for 16650 now! Boring my light i doubt i can as it has a thin layer of metal inside. Ill try my luck with different batts.

You can use 16650 instead of 17670

......

I just discovered this battery size while browsing through an email from the Prometheus (DarkSucks) website. They have a 4-Sevens branded 16650 that they market as a replacement for two CR123A cells.

I ordered a pair today; I have older lights that were made for 18650 but they don't fit the larger diameter 18650 that seems to be the only thing for sale now (defeats the purpose of having a battery size standard!)

It'd also be nice if these fit my Quark 17670-bodied lights, and SureFire lights too.

My "AW" cells are on their last legs due to age, so a number of my lights have just been paperweights for a while.

I'll post a report when I get the 16650s delivered.

16650 are the new 17670. I have a few 16650s in my non-bored Surefire lights and they work perfectly. Plus with 16650 rated at 2500mAh, they have the same capacity of older 18650 cells that we originally bored our lights for back in the day. So I really have no reason to bore out lights anymore unless it's for a high powered dropin or direct drive setup.

Actually, I believe that the 16650 was always the base cell and we got the 17670 due to rebranders adding the PCB and a second wrapper.

At least that's how Redilast did/does it and they were one of the three cell rebranders going back aways.

I just emailed Kathleen at Batteryjunction and she said they are expecting new 17670 stock in mid December. Will those 16650´s work with a PHD M6 regulated battery holder ?

Here I wonder: if 2500mAh Keeppower 16650 is falsely advertised of 2500mAh when that's valid without the protection at 4,35V, is it the same for 2100mAh model?

Unless you're using a 4.35v charger, you're stuck with 4.20v and less capacity...say 2300mAh-ish as per HKJ's tests, at least for the bare naked cells.

And yes...it is the same deal with the Sanyo 16650 v.1 cells in my Redilast 17670s.

What I wonder is if the stated capacity of other cells is also valid for 4,35V? Are all unprotected Li-Ion cells possible to charge to 4,35V?

4.35v and some of the Samsung 4.30v cells of years past, have a distinct chemistry that allows them to operate at their respective voltages.

Typical 4.20v (3.6v/3.7v) li-ions are terminated at roughly 4.20v (+/- .05v).

The problem in everyday use is that many of these 4.35v cells are protected and the PCB protection circuit prohibits charging past 4.20v-4.25v, so while minor, we don't get the true ~2500mAh capacity, but rather closer to 2200mAh-2300mAh, which is more of a nit and you need a charger that can charge up 4.35v cells, like my Littokala 100s/202s and my Opus 3400s with hole drilled in their bottoms.

According to this protected advertised 16650 2500 mAh batteries have capacity of maximum 1900 mAh when recharged to 4.2 volt
