I have some CCTV cameras dotted around my house to monitor areas such as my driveway, garden and patio area. The night vision is not very good and I was looking to try to improve this by introducing some additional lighting but I am not sure whether to go down the halogen root or to use Infrared. Any ideas would be appreciated..?

I would go with halogen over IR, the night vision on most cameras is not good. I find that is best to have enough light that the camera does not switch to night vision mode. If you don't want to leave the lights on all knight, you could put them on motion sensors/timers.
