Hello,

For some years I've been using Ansmann rechargeable AA batteries, which at first were good, but over the past few years or so, I've been finding that cells have been failing.

The issues I've been having are my Ansmann Powerline Pro 4 will not be able to charge some of the batteries at all, neither will my Nitecore i4. A 'dumb' charger will appear to charge the failed battery, but the cell won't really work well at all. After some time in a dumb charger, it will be ok in the Ansmann for a while, then fail again.

I've had a high rate of Ansmann batteries fail, should I make the move to eneloop?

Also I could use another charger, is there something else worth having over the ones mentioned above?

Thanks.

Go with Eneloops they are the best bang for the buck. I like the original eneloops not the pro version as they last longer (more cycles).

The Nitcore is a good all around charger all well for different chemistry and size

I know it's an old thread, but I thought I'd come back to this one. I had six sets of Ansmann AA batteries, I'm now down to two sets due to cell failures. Even a new set in the packaging failed. So now I do need some more, so will give Eneloop a go.

If I use a dumb charger to bring back some of the ones the smart chargers reject, it doesn't take long for them to fail in a device prematurely.

And if you want to save a bit of money, the ladda cells at IKEA are just eneloops with ikea wrappers on them. Same cell inside but about half the price. They're great. The 1900mah are the standard cells and the 2450 are the eneloop pro

Now that is very interesting, I'll look into that as there is an Ikea not too far away.

I think it depends on how many Ansmann cells you're trying to keep in service.

The Opus BT-C2000/2400 chargers will charge and (to an extent) recondition just about any cell and would likely work with your old Ansmann cells. However, at ~US$34 for the charger, you'd have to be able to revive a significant number of old cells to make it worthwhile versus just spending the $34 on new eneloop cells.

Myself, I have about forty old/worn cells in service that charge in an Opus but not with my other smart chargers.

They, and others, can still be found in HKJs comparator
