LED Questions,

I am seeking information regarding LED chip. In short I am seeking to get 10-12W of light from the LED. I was researching and found some Cree 5050 SMD which claim to have 10 W from a single chip.

Is this correct if not what are the options and best SMD for a automative application ?

It seems you are quite new to LED, I suggest, read more threads about this topic and you will likely find all answers. Some 5x5mm chips definately can be powered with 10-12W when properly cooled.

All Cree chips are here: https://www.cree.com/led-components/products/xlamp-leds
Every model - XHP50.2, XP-L2, XM-L2 etc has got very detailed pdf datasheet where are all possible currents, voltages and other information are stated.
Also good and easy understandable site is: http://pct.cree.com

What kind of automotive application do you need? Without more detailed answer we cannot help you much.

Moved to Automotive subforum

As automotive lighting applications are rather specialized and regulated, more details will be needed to advise appropriately, as noted above.

In practical terms there is no such thing as "watts of light"; what lighting function are you trying for? Also, there is no one single "best SMD" for any/all automotive applications. What kind of light are you trying to build or modify?
